Once we landed, the other doctor was recognized and given a thank you gift and I wasn’t despite being the one that made medical decisions, and losing 4+ hrs of sleep (overnight flight).
This is what being a female in medicine looks like.
On my flight back home to see family briefly after working such a hard trauma call shift, @AmericanAir asked for a doctor or nurse on board.
I stood up after <1 min of nobody else standing up, flight attendant assumed I was a nurse. Few minutes later after stabilizing the patron
A guy sitting directly behind the patron said he also was a doctor (PMR) and could help. He asked what kind of doctor I was and I told him emergency medicine.
To make sure she was safe, I ended up sitting with the patron for the rest of the flight (she was anxious over what happened). The seat was covered in vomit and I had no problem cleaning it myself
Graduated from Michigan State as a doctor yesterday!
Moving to California to train with *leaders* in the field of emergency medicine is such an understated privledge
First generation dreams coming true 🥹💚
As a first-gen in medicine, it breaks my heart that my dad can't have the honor to hood me during my med school graduation. My success is very much his and I know how much this would mean to him.
I'm not sure what kind of message it sends that this honor only goes to doctorates.
Pinch me I’m dreaming. I matched at my #1 and ugly cried as a result. So grateful to all my mentors, family, and God.

I had the honor of having my mentor hood me for medical school graduation.
In his years of mentorship of other students, I found out I was the first he had the joy of hooding 🥺🤍
