- Three hours until Harris and Walz are set to appear in Eau Claire and this is the line of cars to get to the rally… 1.5 miles away.
- This is big news. “Univision is selling many of its Spanish-language radio stations — including Miami's ultraconservative Radio Mambi — to a group led by Democrats.” Stations are located in 10 of biggest Latino markets including: Miami, NY, LA, Chicago.
- Fat Joe’s first words on stage at Harris rally in Allentown: “Yo soy Boricua pa que tú lo sepas.” He asks: “My Latinos, where’s your pride?” if you’re still undecided or voting for Trump. “If I tell you Kamala Harris is with us, she’s with us.”
00:00 - Just now: Alejandro Mayorkas has been confirmed to serve as Biden’s secretary of Homeland Security in a 56-43 vote. Lots of firsts here: – First Latino to lead DHS – First immigrant to lead DHS – First Senate-confirmed DHS secretary since April 2019
- Talked to easily a few hundred voters this year — many working class — and the precision with which some people could tell me how much a pound of steak, carton of eggs, gallon of milk had gone up (not to mention the price of rent) tells a very different story."It wasn’t the economy," @mtomasky says. "It wasn’t inflation, or anything else. It was how people perceive those things, which points to one overpowering answer" — the right-wing media. newrepublic.com/post/188197/tr…
- 3,300+ Latinas are currently on a Zoom call hyping up VP @KamalaHarris’s candidacy. Chat function has been flooded with comments including women saying: “DALE GANAS,” “#LatinasAreAForce,” “Comadres for Kamala!” and “Let’s remember Kamala is 1/2 CARIBBEAN!”
- The crowd roared here in Allentown as Mayor Matt Tuerk made reference to the “island of garbage” comment and implored: “Puerto Rico se respeta.” Some attendees pulled out large Puerto Rican flags. Tuerk transitioned to Harris’s broader message: “We’re not going back.”
00:00 - Replying to @sabrod123Talk to migrants arriving at the border — and they don’t talk about Biden. Or Trump. Or Washington. They talk about what they’ve fled: Violence. Poverty. Devastation. “I would have found a way to come no matter what.” “There’s nothing else I could do.”
- As a Miami Cuban, I’ve gotta say — I really wish more of the talk in DC about the situation in Cuba was about the Cuban people in Cuba and not Miami.
- Abuela’s impeachment reaction: “Mija, si tú esperaste algo diferente hoy, entonces tú no conoces este país.”
- Let’s not start with the blaming Latino voters thing again. It’s tired.
- Personal update: This Cubanita de Hialeah is officially @politico’s immigration correspondent! Really picked a calm time to start covering this. All the tips are welcome.
- Obama makes a quick stop in Miami Springs to offer a message to Dems here: “If you bring Florida home, this things over... I won’t have to wait for the results. I want to go to sleep knowing we’re going to have a president fighting on our behalf.”
