- after 15 years, this is my last day at pitchfork. i am among the essential staffers who are being cut. it's awful, a stupendous blunder. but i want to use it as an opportunity to celebrate some of the pieces i've edited and written, and the people that changed my life...
- Replying to @ryandomballet's get this one out of the way: looking back on my review of kanye's twisted fantasy album, i'm most struck by the optimism. it really felt like a hopeful moment in time. that feeling is long gone—but i stand by the score!
- my no. 1 song of the year is "no one at pitchfork should be laid off"🧵 : As Pitchfork begins its year-end coverage, our staff is still waiting to hear from Conde Nast management about potential layoffs at the site, as part of a company-wide purge that was announced a month ago
- Replying to @ryandombali've been working with @jennpelly since the start of her career. no one has challenged me more as an editor, no one is more meticulous. her epic fiona apple interview is an example of the universe getting things right every once and a while.
- i went to vancouver to profile destroyer's dan bejar, who is not on twitterReplying to @pitchforkOne of Dan Bejar’s favorite songwriting rules is “Sing the least poetic thing you can think of, and try to make it sound beautiful.” → p4k.in/NCvZskS
- Replying to @ryandombaland thanks to everyone who ever read our work it all sounds like a dream to me...
- Replying to @ryandombalthere was that time i reviewed david bowie's blackstar a few days before his shocking passing, starting with the line, "david bowie has died many deaths yet he is still with us." he'll always be with us.
- guess what? unions work.@p4kunion, @newyorkerunion, and @ars_union are thrilled to announce that after 2-and-a-half years of negotiations with @CondeNast, we have reached an agreement in principle on our first contracts and averted a strike.🎇Here are some of our wins: (1/9)
- Replying to @ryandombal@jillian_mapes was the only fellow features editor i ever had at pitchfork, and for that i am grateful. i love this beach house interview because it's fun, smart, and makes me care deeply about a band that (confession) i've never cared about that much!
- Replying to @ryandombalevery time @Jayson_Greene's copy landed it my inbox, it was a gift. we worked on every single one of his overtones columns together, and they're all fantastic. just an incredible thinker. and his profile of phil elverum holds a special place in my heart.
- Replying to @ryandombalspeaking of cover stories, this one i did on daft punk was totally surreal—especially for someone who once bought the cassingle of "around the world" as a teenager. it also features the most eye-popping visuals of any feature in pitchfork history. pitchfork.com/features/cover…
- Replying to @ryandombalthere are a lot of music writers out there, but very few music journalists. @MarcHogan is THE music journalist of our time. i love how he can turn the biggest idea into a definitive reported story, as he did here.
- Replying to @ryandombal@Al_Peeair is the funniest writer pitchfork's ever had. he's also one of the flat-out best. more than that, his dedication to covering undervalued rap scenes with clear eyes and open ears continues to inspire me.
