Had a student accidentally walk into my European history class. (He’s in the class I teach right after, in the same room) I asked why he stayed. His answer? “What y’all were talking about was so interesting, I wanted to stay and learn more.” Pretty cool feeling.

22 films later, we're watching all the American presidents fight an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Henry Clay.

I don’t care what you think of the film—but please take time to learn about why Green Books actually mattered in American history.
Victor Hugo Green created the Green Book to help Black people travel safely in America. The Schomburg Center is home to the largest collection of Green Books, available to the public online or in person. Learn more: ow.ly/TCjM30mDjXn

    Replying to @PhuzzieSlippers
I've come close a few times to crying while lecturing about slavery in class. It's tough, man.

Just sent the FULL DISSERTATION DRAFT TO THE COMMITTEE along with a friendly reminder to finish the Doodle poll FOR A DEFENSE DATE. I might vomit.

W.E.B. Du Bois' life is insane. You could teach an entire course *within the contours of his lifetime* and cover nearly a century of U.S. history. He was born during Reconstruction and died the day before the I Have a Dream speech.

Godzilla is trending because we're all bored. Good reason to post my favorite GIF of all time.

I’m just going to post an approximate expression of me reading John Kelly on the Civil War.

I am teaching Civil War and Reconstruction this fall, and I am seriously considering making the course mostly about Reconstruction. I do not want to give the war itself short shrift, but I *really* want to focus more on Reconstruction and its aftermath. Decisions, decisions.

The only folks saying this was unimaginable in the United States are those who just never read a decent book on the Reconstruction period.

Defended. Make a few revisions and that is it.

Had to end my African American History class today because I broke down talking about lynchings and explaining why I wouldn't show any lynching photos because the students have grown up with all the police brutality videos.
