Hi! That’s extremely kind of you to say. Thank you! Since we’re talking about this, here’s a short story about this feature… x.com/kyro/status/11…

Hi folks! The Authentication Experience team at Apple, which I manage, is looking for a software engineering intern (iOS/Swift) for the summer of 2023! This is the team that brought you passkeys and the “best feature Apple’s ever made”, according to the Twitter meme. 1/3

Autofill verification codes received in Mail
One-time verification codes you receive in Mail are filled in automatically, so you can log in without leaving Safari.

Oh my gosh. It even happens on LinkedIn.
Screenshot of a LinkedIn post. It says, "The best feature Apple has ever made", and shows a screenshot of the SMS code AutoFill feature from iOS.

~ Some Personal News ~ After 7 years as a software engineer on the Safari team, I’m trying something new! I’m now managing a new team at Apple whose goal is to solve the problems people have with accounts, authentication, and passwords. I’m really, really excited!

‼️🔑 macOS Sonoma brings Apple’s password manager to Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other browsers using their extensions stores with the “iCloud Passwords” browser extension. If you’re running the macOS Sonoma public or developer beta, you can try it right now! [1/n]

For anyone who saw this tweet earlier, this isn’t Ikea’s doing. It’s a Safari feature to not show redundant prefixes in adjacent tab titles.
Nice detail on Ikea. When you open another product from the same series in a new tab, the page titles change from the name to the measurements.

I just want to make sure people know that Jack is stealing valor here. There was an awesome team that delivered this feature, I lead that team, and I’ve never heard of or met Jack. I can’t tell whether Jack is trolling or whether something far more sinister is happening here.

An iOS 15.4 change that I adore: Sign into the Amazon app. You’ll get a beautiful account picker *that includes passwords from your password manager of choice*. The deprecated SecRequestSharedWebCredential API is now implemented with the modern ASAuthorizationPasswordRequest.
A screenshot of an iPhone. The user is signing into the Amazon app. In the foreground, there’s a Sign In sheet from iOS that makes it easy for the user to sign in.

Addendum: FAQs - “SMS is bad.” ↪ I know. - “MITM.” ↪ I know. - “FIDO is better.” ↪ It’s complicated, but acknowledged; I totally get it. - “Android did it first.” ↪ Nah. Details matter. Privacy matters. And clipboard != AutoFill. - *negativity* ↪ Not now. :)

Hot take: “Internet Explorer” was the most friendly, and arguably best, name of any web browser.
