A Patient-focused physician, speaks out on health issues to clarify complexities, expose middlemen, and explore the future of medicine. NOT medical advice
Every medical specialty has its own stereotype. From orthopedic surgeons playing football to radiologists loving dark rooms, healthcare culture has plenty of inside jokes that doctors instantly recognize.

I performed some health insurance research today.
My waitress informed me that she has no health insurance because:
• Premiums are $100 a week
• She would have a $5,000 deductible
• She can't afford this deductible
• She saves the $100 a week for healthcare expenses
The
55% of US students who applied to medical school were rejected last year. That comes to about 30,000 students and many had impeccable credentials.
You should be doing everything possible to train US physicians and not making it easier for foreign physicians to gain entry
Inopportune time to be overseas when this controversy on H67 broke and it appears that this took on a life of its own after the weekend…time to address some of the comments being made out here now that I have access to reliable internet. This is going to be a long thread, so
If you pay a physician in cash, the price is lower because we don't have to bill the insurance company, get denied, and appeal.
You get a great deal, the physician gets a great deal, and the insurance company is eliminated from the equation.

Avoid hospital-employed physicians, outpatient centers, urgent cares, labs, and imaging if the tests are routine and scheduled.
Always ask for the cash
The AMA should be advocating for American physicians. Hell, it is In your name!
Advocate for the following:
1. Increases in the number of medical school and
Residency spots in the USA
2. Incentives for rural physicians to include
Nonprofit status for private
Raising the H-1B visa fee to $100,000 risks shutting off the pipeline of highly trained physicians, especially in rural and underserved communities. The AMA stands ready to work with the administration and our partners in medicine to exempt health care workers from this policy,
People had affordable and great health insurance in the 1960s and early 1970s.
People paid out of pocket for outpatient care, and insurance covered inpatient and large-ticket items.
Hospital rates were low, and patients were thin and healthy.
The government came in to rescue
Did Americans actually ever have decent health insurance and reasonable payments?
Or has it always been a shitshow?
I've only been here long enough to experience the "shitshow." 🥲
Best surgical experience I ever had was in a physician owned hospital. Excellent care and service from admissions to surgery to post care. How is this now illegal?
Physicians can’t own hospitals. That’s right — the Affordable Care Act made it illegal, and even capped the size of the ones that already existed. The claim was higher costs from self-referrals, but data shows physician hospitals are cheaper and better. #healthcare#doctor
Always ask for the cash price. I check every medicine on Cost Plus Drugs, and on one, I save 70% by not using insurance. The ACA mandated prescription drug coverage, and for most people, it is a waste of money.
If something is good, it doesn't need to be mandated!
Physicians should be paid like plumbers. Plumbers don't have there rates set by a federal agency.
Plumbers don't have to wait for an insurance company to determine if they deserve to get paid.
Plumbers can decide to charge more for evening, weekend, and holiday services.
Hospitals receive a much higher reimbursement than physicians for identical services.
These are called facility fees and are the reason why any service done at a hospital is insanely expensive.
The majority of hospitals are nonprofit and they claim they shouldn’t have to pay

This is taxpayer money supporting a politician who influences teacher pay.
This is why public sector unions shouldn’t exist!
No one is representing the tax payers.
