I just got my W2: Total comp was $640k. $300k was stock. Some non trivial amount was a bonus (25%?) I worked at Meta for 5 years, and in 2022 I got the highest performance rating available. (Redefines expectations). I joined via acquisition, but I was only an E5.

I'm pretty positive I'm not going to come even close to that again in my lifetime. I do think options like this (even if not this insane) are more plentiful than people typically realize. I'm happy to try to point folks in the right direction, if they think it'd help!

I'm not posting this as a brag, I'm posting this as a reality check: You can make a ton of freaking money in software. I couldn't have gotten hired at Meta the traditional way (wouldn't have passed resume screens probably.)

I almost quit a year ago, exactly today, then my company got acquired. A story (with pictures!)
If you quit because you found a new passion or purpose, fine. But don’t quit because you are scared or stressed and running away. And don’t lie to yourself about the reason either.

Because people can’t fit three car seats in a standard car, the birth rate may have been depressed due to car seat laws.

Before starting at Meta the most I made was $100k, but in 2017 I made $85k. I honestly can't believe this is my life.

Hey can you all just quickly send some good vibes my way right now? I have a huge work thing I need to work. Help me out universe.

I don't know if I can ever do another startup. I'm about to hit 40, and going into full "lazy" mode to optimize for my kids' happiness at the expense of professional achievement. @paulg / @foundersatwork started Y Combinator around this same time...

Why YC is successful in two paragraphs. Stumbled across it today. From 2006 / 2009. paulgraham.com/whyyc.html

Ok. That’s enough internet for today. We have our winner.

I’m interviewing for a job I’m already doing at Facebook. The way I joined Facebook was unique, so to give myself internal mobility options I get to interview again. For fb folks: doing a uie interview. Wish me luck!
