I had a brilliant time on @BBCFreeThinking chatting about housework yesterday with @mamaktrue Orielle Sullivan Michèle Roberts and @DrMatthewSweet thanks to the brilliant @torqmac and have so much left to say! Here’s a thread based on my 10yrs’ research on waste+housework (1/?)

Apparently a lecturer my age saying “lit” is very, very cringe: I watched my students visibly *wince* when I used it (ironically) to describe next week’s class. So my question now is: what other down-with-the-kids slang can I adopt to embarrass them?

Let me tell you what kind of a place Cambridge is. Thread.
To understand Zadie Smith, you have to understand Cambridge. And its special brand of self-regarding gaslighting.

Oh my god, I used to love telling my students that I was going home to read the internet 😂

Update: please understand that this is a *joke* request, I used the word “lit” ironically, and I am not planning on using these words in my classes or appropriating AAVE. I will block bad-faith replies.

Thread. I fell down a GC rabbit hole 2 yrs ago. I was lucky enough that some people w/vastly more understanding of the assault on trans rights & its relationship to other right-wing currents took time to speak with me, recommend reading, and explain what I was missing. (1)
if you’re wading in to an argument about “academic freedom” and basically saying “my very literal interpretation of this motion is that it is fine” and you have no idea about how “academic freedom to discuss sex and gender” has been used repeatedly, please shut up

Yes, by all means, make it contingent on them telling the class they have cystitis/IBS/period/medication side effects or whatever other concern that is no one’s business might necessitate drinking lots of water or frequent trips to the toilet.

What I will say is that places like Cambridge cannot but shape one into the kind of person who says “hmm, it’s complex” when asked about genocide, or imperialism, or anything that casts doubt on the greatness of British culture. 14/

So on August 31, after 5 yrs & 21 days, I am leaving Roehampton. Others on here have already described the heartache of leaving, and it really has been painful seeing post after post announcing these departures. I am verbose though so this will be a thread. 1/

That being said I live in terror of his turning to women’s wear, seeing a photo of me and just ripping my outfit to shreds 😂

The thing I can't stop thinking about is this: HOW are academics who don't have a supportive partner getting thru this autumn hellscape? HOW??

Because you were avoiding doing something else, right? Just like the reason I’m responding to your comment 🤓
