My dad passed away last night after getting COVID in late August. Before COVID, his (maskless) doctors thought he had maybe 6-12 months left. My dad was dying of cancer and dementia and was about to start at home hospice, but COVID killed him first. He deserved so much better.
Just bought some COVID tests. The maskless pharmacist said: “thank you for wearing a mask if you’re sick.” I told her “I’m not sick as far as I know and am trying to keep it that way. For both of us. “ She just looked at me. Why are HCWs like this?
I don’t know how I didn’t get COVID in my recent 10+ day travels in New York and Canada. Oh wait. Maybe it’s because I masked indoors and in crowded places outdoors, ate outdoors, made sure my AirBnBs were ventilated, and used my air purifier.
I went to a dinner party hosted by a colleague and her surgeon boyfriend. They knew my toddler who was there with me had a severe nut allergy, but put out nuts anyway. When I asked them (nicely) to remove the nuts, the surgeon said: you can’t let your son live in a bubble forever
My elderly mom rarely masks despite losing my dad to C19 less than 1 yr ago. She was exposed to C19 recently, but still had guests over. She did wear a mask fortunately and offered them to guests. They said “no thanks” despite knowing my mom was exposed. One is an oncology nurse
Sister and her spouse have been ill for 2 weeks since taking a cruise. They’ve been going to work sick because they don’t have a lot of PTO left because they took a cruise that got them sick. They’ve won’t take a C19 test because “there’s nothing you can do about COVID.” My god.
I bought some COVID tests at Walgreens recently. (Only person masking). The pharmacist asked me if I needed them because I was sick. I said “no, I’m not sick. I just don’t want to kill my elderly parents so I test regularly. And that’s why I’m wearing a mask too.” Crickets.
I went into a liquor store and the cashier said aggressively “no masks allowed! We had an incident. No masks!” I said “Really? That’s too bad. I was going to buy a nice bottle of bourbon. I guess you don’t want my money.” Then he yelled “get the f*** out of my store!”
This isn’t my 1st conference during the ongoing pandemic where I’m 1 of the only ppl (3/250) masking. It’s demoralizing b/c the conference is about health equity, social justice, and movement building. It’s not a safe and welcoming space and it’s hard to take anyone seriously.
Boebert: I wasn’t REALLY planning on carrying a gun in DC. I was just trying to fundraise by stoking fear and hatred among my base. You see, it’s all about bad faith, fear mongering, and grift.
My dad’s neurologist told my parents they didn’t need “to wear those things” in his office. They took off their masks. Both got COVID and my dad passed away about a month later. I can’t say for sure that’s where my dad got the infection that killed him, but it’s very likely.
