    I am saddened by the election result in Indonesia & worried about the future of democracy there. Meanwhile the president has postponed election in Senegal. These two are the most democratic countries in the Muslim world. This is also related to the global crisis of democracy...

    Declining religiosity is the trend in not only Arab countries but also Turkey. Islamists and ulema have preached that Islam provides solutions to everything from toilet etiquette to politics. This utopian preaching is now leading to a secularist backlash:

    Turkey's eminent singer & songwriter #SezenAksu is attacked w a blasphemy accusation. President Erdogan targeted her yesterday in a mosque after Friday prayer saying that it's his "duty to cut those tongues who defame Adam & Eve." Sezen replied w these lyrics I tried to translate
