When someone whose work you really admire cites you as an influence.... it makes you feel really bloody old! But thanks to the master wordsmith @James1940
Actually, the book that made me think, โ€˜yes, this is the way to write history,โ€™ was Finest Hour by @philmcraig and Tim Clayton. Absolutely brilliant - and an amazing BBC TV series too for that matter. Came out back in 1999, I think, but still very much in print.

Crikey Adam, really? I worked alongside the likes of Fred Emery, Gavin Hewitt, John Ware, Jane Corbin on Panorama, under the editorships of Mark Thompson and Peter Horrocks. Whatever they might have thought of Trump or the events of January 2021 - not much I suspect - the idea

Thanks you for bearing witness It must have been so terrible. But with so much denial and so much lying the world needs to know what Hamas is and why it must be destroyed.

Thatโ€™s nothing, just look at how New York celebrated Ben Stokesโ€™ innings at the cricket World Cup last July.

How anyone could read stories like this and then march today in London chanting to save Hamas utterly bewilders me.

Update. The engineer was very nice and identified the fault in the dishwasher drainage system. Heโ€™s recommending a new valve, a one man totalitarian police state, rapid industrialization, the theory of socialism in one country, forced collectivization of agriculture,

What started in late 2023 with the fear of confronting blatantly pro Hamas marches in London ends - no, sadly, doesnโ€™t end but insidiously progresses- with this. The last two words heard by little girls at the Manchester Arena, and by so many others in so many other places,

Well said James and - for the record - I do apologise for that evening in 1988. But who knew you could do that standing on a bar stool?

The heroes of this are those who fought for peace -the SDLP, Unionists like Trimble, socialist like Mo Mowlem and, yes, centrists like Blair & Major. The blood-soaked villains include Sands, fanatics from UVF and IRA & the terrorist fanboys who clustered around Corbyn then & now.
