When I was 16-18 I used to stay up every night in the summer until like 4am writing so as a “summer job” I had a pseudo-taxi service where anyone who was too drunk could call me in the middle of the night and I’d drive them home from parties. I made like $2000 in one summer

What this article unintentionally does is highlight everything wrong with YA publishing. The current market is pushing actual teen readers out in favor of catering to adults. Let teens have this one thing that’s for them without bending to the whims of 35-year-olds.

And don’t get me started on how YA publishing pushes for darker/sexier/more mature content for the express purpose of appealing to adults over teens so they can make more money. It’s all capitalism, people. It’s always capitalism!! They don’t care about teens! They never have!

And now you get teens with no interest in YA because a lot of it isn’t actually written for them. And when it *is* written for teens, adult reviewers rate it poorly saying “this book is too YA for me :/” Of course it is!! It’s not for you!! The world doesn’t revolve around you!!
