Last year, I decided to learn more about acquisition entrepreneurship by getting some reps in. So I did–I bought/sold a SaaS business and 10xed my money in ~2 weeks of work. Here's what I learned from my accidental flip 👇🧵 (and props to @microacquire for making this doable!)

Focusing on the process – and not the end result – helps me avoid the extreme effort trap. Lay out the reasonable steps (the training plan) ahead of time, and trust it. So easy to get caught up in the moment otherwise.

WordPress' flexibility was once its strength. As competitors have emerged that are laser-focused on specific problems, it's clear that that strength is now a weakness. If WordPress is going to continue to prosper, we need to make it easier for a site owner to go from 0 to 1.

The WordPress community is uneasy about the growing pace of acquisitions. Every acquisition seems to foster a nervous dialog in the @post_status Slack. It's understandable: indie creators have been WP's backbone. 🔥 Hot take: The WP ecosytems *needs* roll-ups. 🧵 👇

Last summer, I spent a few weeks building my partner's business atop a headless (decoupled) WordPress and WooCommerce stack. This summer, I'm moving it away from WordPress. I love WP. It's the best tool for most jobs. But it's falling short on headless. Why? 👇🧵

At least you have plenty of time to read the manual while you wait for it to open.

Though they make your org chart messier, generalists are the single most valuable role in business. I'd love to see more startups hiring "generalist" roles. Maybe Chief of Staff comes close?

The most undervalued role in business: the generalist. Generalists: - Leverage diverse skill sets to solve problems the *right* way (often creatively) - Can adapt their focus to the business' real-time needs - Are voracious learners

Though we've made great strides in the last few years, building a headless WordPress site is often still more time consuming and more complicated than building a traditionally architected site. So why bother? 6 of the most compelling reasons I've found to go headless 👇🧵

6 of the 20 worst-reviewed WordPress plugins are integrations between WP and other popular software. That doesn't seem like a coincidence.

An @elemntor add-on company, @ExclusiveAddons, finally sold on @Flippa – for $70k – in its second time at auction. It topped out at ~$40k last time. 2.1x revenue is relatively low for 4-digit MRR with multiple years of sustained earnings. Let's dig into why it sold low ⬇️

The vast majority of WordPress' 60,000+ plugins are utility plugins: tools that solve small, individual problems. Though a huge part of WP's flexibility reach, but they put too much burden on site owners. We need to shift our focus to solutions: end-to-end answers to problems.
