    The Ritz! A perfect place for lunch after getting my OBE from the King at Buckingham Palace. The staff and kitchen were on top form and clearly I’m ready for a top up of this scrumptious Fleurie 2020 Domaine de Fa which positively purred with succulent Suffolk lamb.

    May and I are cycling round the Midlands with Armonico Consort raising money for Dementia Homes. We’re singing in them too- James and I holding up a fairly dodgy bass line and mastering ‘Do the Wang’. Then it’s pints of foaming ale, old and filthy red and spam’n beans de luxe.Yum

    There’s only one rule for English Wine Week - everybody- and that means you- HAS to drink at least one bottle of English wine. Preferably from a winery local to you, a member of your own community- the one you live in and are so keen to preserve in tough times. Now’s the time...

    I’ve just won first prize in The Queen’s English Society Awards for my writing in English Wine . I’m thrilled. In fact I’m reet chuffed. ( now,now,; that’s enough of the vernacular: ed).

    Every year I come to the same conclusion - mature Bordeaux is a cold season wine and the onset of winter is the perfect time to let them show their brilliant best. These are some that I’ve drink this month and every one soared with succulence and supreme ‘big smile’ drinkability

    Proudly receiving my Officier Gong from the Ambassador at the stunning French Residence in Kensington Palace Gardens. And, of course, ace ultra-French patisserie canapés and very tasty Mumm Champagne. The Entente Cordiale is 120 years old this year. Long may it continue
