    Bradley coach Brian Wardle made it a point to get the team's cheerleaders on the podium to celebrate after MVC title win today. The classy move brought some of the girls to tears. One told me he even showed up at a 5 a.m. cheer practice to bring the girls donuts. Really nice.

    Dan Rolfes remains at University hospital in Columbia. His family says he suffered a heart attack after the semifinal win over Rock Bridge. He had a heart assisted device and stents put into place and is under heavy sedation. The family appreciates the continued prayers.

    VASHON WINS STATE TITLE. Wolverines 69, Springfield Catholic 59. FULL TIME in Class 3 championship game. Mario McKinney with 23, Cam'ron Fletcher 19. Phillip Russell with 17. The 11th overall championship for PHL power - third in last four years. Story and photos to come soon.

    Best news of the day - Lebanon girls basketball coach Chad Cruthis is fine and home from hospital after kidney transplant last week. His son Jackson, the recipient, is still in hospital for a few more days, but he doing well.

    O'FALLON WINS STATE TITLE with 62-57 double-OT win over Benet. Dowell with 25. Pelly 16 including 4 in second extra session. St. Louis are teams win 3 state crowns. Hats off to Okawville, Mater Dei and O'Fallon. The Queens of Illinois hoops reside in southern half of state

    Kaylah Rainey entered game with 4:19 left in first quarter to a standing ovation from both sides. The Belleville East senior recorded a nifty steal and layup 21 seconds later. Rainey, who is headed to Northwestern University, had open-heart surgery just 62 days ago. So impressive

    Fairmount Park re-opened today without fans and pulled in a whopping handle of $899,791 in a 7-race card. It is obvious that the rest of the nation is paying attention to the FP races on Tuesdays. Great for area horsemen.

    Spoke with Katie Rolfes at hospital a few minutes ago. Dan is in surgery right now. IWA is slated to take on Kickapoo for state title tomorrow at 6 p.m. "We are playing tomorrow," IWA president Sharon Gerken said, indicating that was what Dan wanted.
