"You can only grow community at the speed of trust."
Andy Crouch @ahc chatted with me for the Third Oikos on how we can become more human in the face of immense technological change
They don't want you to know that you can literally just use baking soda, white vinegar and castile soap to clean EVERYTHING.
You never need to touch a chemical again.
Readers added context
Baking Soda is a chemical called sodium bicarbonate. It's chemical formula is NaHCO₃.
White Vinegar a.k.a acetic/ethanolic acid's chemical formula is CH3COOH/ C2H4O2.

Took me 2.5 years of parenting to realize that lifetime fitness membership with a kid including 2.5 hours of childcare for free as long as you're in the building (cafe, sauna, gym, etc) is absurd & about to be a major pillar of parent-life balance.
20yo+ guy at the gym cafe very sweetly offered to cut up an apple for my toddler, then handed it to me and apologized nervously because he "had never cut up an apple before" ??
2yo traveled over a day and a half to get to me, barely slept, and arrived at 10:30pm in complete darkness and says over and over again “I think we should go for a little walk … I think it is time to go for a little walk … to explore”
my favorite type of parent is the ones who are like
“screen time?
yeah unlimited screen time …
on our own server + the Linux machine, and they can just access anki, PowerPoint, and anything else they can figure out how to access by the CLI.”
One thing I haven’t been able to get out of my mind since volunteering at this homeless center / church.
Many people who come in, within 60 minutes of talking to them or less, are clearly significantly developmentally disabled and don’t know that they are.
I volunteer a few times a week at NSCChurch which primarily serves the homeless & or addicted / formerly addicted population of Brooklyn, New York.
The desk I work at helps people get government funded phone service, emails, food stamps, social security, rehab, housing, etc.
Respectfully, what am I supposed to do when the literal only path for me to get me + an infant/toddler from below ground on the subway to above ground is an elevator that a crazy person is clearly posted up in and not leaving?
it’s about the willful ignorance where people constantly pretend it’s normal to age like this, and when people realize they arent aging like this, there’s an entire industry ready to lock you into paying to look like this for the rest of your life
