1/19 At EthDenver, people keep asking me on my perspective on optimistic rollups vs zkRollups. Unfortunately, zkRollups have managed to occupy the whole narrative space, so here's a take that is a bit more nuanced!

I think the mempool is going to be one of the next blockchain module where we will see a lot of innovation. Encrypted mempools, side-pools, app-specific mempools, custom appchain mempools, ... read all about it below!

1/35 🧵 I think most people understimate the potential of smart contract wallets (aka account abstraction). Yes, social recovery, gas subsidies and stablecoin gas are all cool ... ... but what excites me the most is *delegation*.

1/27 🧵 The chain/rollup-as-a-service field is furiously heating up right now. I count no less than 9 dedicated companies that want to compete in the space (not even counting L2s and L1s that may want a part of the action). Here's a whirlwind tour!

Who's ready for a showdown 🤠 ??? @OptimismFDN Bedrock vs @Arbitrum Nitro 🗿 ⚔ 🚀 (Actually a really nerdy & detailed breakdown of differences — fooled ya) It was too long to be a tweet thread: norswap.com/bedrock-vs-nit…

1/43 🧵 How do you shuffle a deck of cards on the blockchain? How do you draw a card without revealing it to your opponent?

Ethereum engineering puzzle 🧩 You're writing a backend service that has to submit transactions to the chain using an in-memory private key. You might need to submit multiple transactions on the same block, and retry them if they don't land. Pause here — do you already see an

It's funny seeing this new wave of Ethereum-killers (or should I call them Solana-killers?) coming out (Sui, Aptos). It feels like a fundamental mistake. Why make an L1 that nobody can validate when you can have an L1 (ETH) you can + validity proofs or fault proofs?

I'm thrilled to announce ✨ roll-op 🔴 🏗️ Roll-op is a script that helps you configure and deploy your OP Stack chains anywhere you might need them.

I think the OP stack is good, I'm proud of my part in it, and I'm happy it's as successful as it is. But let's stay honest: it's not very modular besides swapping the execution engine, and modularity wasn't a big design goal during my time at OP.
We built the OP Stack to be the most forkable, modular scaling infrastructure out there. That bet on community is paying off: it feels like every other day someone gives the OP Stack a new superpower, or launches a new chain. 🥞🦸‍♂️✨ But the story doesn’t end there.

Rollup-as-a-service (RaaS) providers are a topic that comes up often in my conversations. I wanted to share some thoughts on the topic! I’m afraid that RaaS providers are very misaligned with their customers at the moment. I’m excited about a future of many networked rollapps.
