Interesting to observe reaction in #Vietnam to developments in #Myanmar. While official media stick to a neutral position calling for peace and stability, social media are largely supportive of anti-coup protesters.

I heard Robert Bociaga, a freelance journalist, has been detained by the #Myanmar military while covering protests in #Taunggyi in Shan state. Please let me know if you have any information about him.

Just as we near the time of the Christmas bombing, let me remind you that it was Henry Kissinger who advised President Richard Nixon to bomb Hanoi in 1972 to make the North Vietnamese "negotiate seriously". 2,400 Vietnamese lost their lives then.

40 Vietnamese men and women fled a casino in Cambodia on Thursday and tried to swim back to Vietnam's An Giang province. One reportedly drowned. They said they were duped into working illegally Cambodia and got beaten.

People ask me what the Vietnamese make of the new reciprocal tariffs. Disbelief and shock. Many Vietnamese think their government has been trying very hard to appease the US administration. Deputy PM and ex minister of finance Ho Duc Phoc is going to the US to try renegotiate.

Only in #Vietnam: while a big fire ravaging the top floor, unfazed customers on the ground floor of a beer shop in Hanoi carried on drinking and eating. The fire was reportedly put out an hour later, no one died, no beer spilt. (Photo credit Giang Trinh)

Heart breaking photos of migrant workers fleeing Ho Chi Minh City and other Covid-affected cities. Some had to spend the night by the roadside, some even walked hundreds of km to their villages. This pandemic is brutal.💔 😭 🙏🏻 #Vietnam

Vietnamese born Ke Huy Quan, whose family of ethnic Chinese descent fled Vietnam in 1978 and who stayed in a refugee camp in Hong Kong, has won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Everything Everywhere All at Once 🎉👋

Heartbreaking photo of a sick man, perhaps a Covid patient, lying on the ground clinging to life via an oxygen cylinder. Totally alone. This pandemic is absolutely devastating #Vietnam #prayforSaigon

President Xi Jinping arrived in Hanoi at noon local time today. He was met at the airport by Vietnam President Luong Cuong - a special privileged welcome showing that Hanoi places great importance on the visit. When Russia’s Putin visited VN last year he was met by a DPM.

Developments in #Thailand deserve more attention from the world. Is this the beginning of a revolution?

Interesting: the official Vietnam News doesn’t have anything on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Vietnam on its front page today.

Tonight, Vietnam's tallest building- the Landmark 81 in HCMC -is once again lighting up in the colours of Ukrainian flag to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day. The building is owned by Vinhomes, a subsidiary of Vingroup. Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong studied in Ukraine in the 1980s.

In this scene from Netflix’s “Little Women” the man, a Vietnam vet, was talking about Korean soldiers who fought alongside the Americans in the Vietnam War. Korean troops at that time were known for their brutality. Wonder what the VN viewers who usually love K-dramas think…
