👋 Personal news: I was one of the people to take the POLITICO buyout — my last day was Friday. It’s bittersweet to end my seven years here this way, but I’m grateful for all the great stories I got to report, the impact my work had and the great reporters and editors I got to

My parents in recent yrs have taken to getting a national forest pass to cut down their own tree because tree farm prices have skyrocketed. This year she tells me “our tree is a little bit different, we weren’t sure at first but it’s growing on us.” The tree:

Me: "I work at POLITICO, I'm the cannabis reporter." @BernieSanders: "You're the cannabis reporter?" Me: "I'm the cannabis reporter." Sanders: "Are you stoned right now?" Me: "I am not stoned right now."

The permit to cut down a national forest tree is $7. I told her she got $7 worth of tree

In cannabis banking hearing, @AOC asks: "are we compounding the racial wealth gap right now?" She also asks the panel if "the folks who profited off for-profit incarceration could be the first to profit off legalization?" Corey Barnette's answer: "yes." #cannabisnews

This photo with my dad starting up at it is giving Charlie Brown Xmas vibes But I’m starting to think my mom might not be crazy about it being “elegant”

She says it’s elegant and likes that it’s very tall (they’ve had one this tall before since you get to pick whatever size you want in the national forest for $7) The update with some decoration:

Love is Blind can’t find people in DC because everyone a)won’t take the time off from their career to find love, b)is afraid they might jeopardize their security clearance by going on the show and/or c) doesn’t want it to pop up when they run for office someday.

Mitt Romney's grandson dressing up as his grandfather's twitter alter-ego is probably my favorite meta halloween costume of all time.

I sent my mom some of the responses here and she really loved them 🫶🏻 her response (below) is classic teacher Nancy. (JFYI She calls things with lovely festive vibes -like a house festooned with lights or a perfect holiday shop window- a “Christmas sighting”)

Three takeaways: 1: Lawmakers are still releasing marijuana-related news at 4:20pm. 2: Sanders' plan is the first I've seen to create USDA-funded farming grants for marijuana, which is pretty interesting. 3: His plan bans the tobacco industry from participating in marijuana.
Too many lives were ruined due to the disastrous criminalization of marijuana. Today I am releasing my plan to: ✅ Legalize marijuana with executive action ✅ Expunge past marijuana convictions ✅ Invest in communities most affected by the War on Drugs berniesanders.com/issues/legaliz…
