I'm Dr. Desi now! To defend on my homelands in our tribal college with family, friends & my fellow tribal citizens on the line is surreal. I had my son in the middle of the grind. He graduates today too. Nea'eše to my amazing @ua_sociology committee. I'll never forget today. 🙌🏾

No, Indian Reservations aren’t going to become safe harbors for abortions. It sounds easy, but there’s hundreds of years of legal rulings that make basic survival on reservations damn near impossible! So start demanding more from your elected officials, not Indigenous Peoples!

I was accepted to Stanford 100% bc of affirmative action. A 15 yo rez girl living w kids from royal families & trust funds. When I worked for Stanford Admissions, I had to answer does Stanford practice aff action? My response was always yes bc the playing field isn’t level! 1/

Today my baby talked about our Cheyenne culture to 3 kindergarten classes in a mix of Spanish/English. He told them that Natives are still here & no mama isn’t Pocahontas, she’s a professor 😂 & then we all round danced. F* I’m so proud. How did I get so lucky? #wearestillhere

I was just denied a mortgage. It continues to piss me off that making six figures in LA…more money than I could ever imagine…more money than anyone in my family makes…still means I’ll never afford to buy a 2 bed fixer upper in the valley much less anything else. This is f’d.

Almost 60% of those in South Dakota prisons are Natives. You do the math.

Was told by a reviewer to not use genocide to describe what happened to Natives bc it is a charged word. Listen, my entire life is “charged” because of genocide. I use that word intentionally! Another reviewer said tribal identities are not political identities. I’m tired.

My entire career/life is bc of that decision. It’s why I am now a professor. Every year Black, Native, & Brown students thank me bc they never thought they’d have a professor like me. They thank me for existing in these places of violence that were never built for us. 2/

I write each name down. Year after year. I fight for them & they fight for me. We need each other. But do we need these institutions? SCOTUS keeps playing games w our lives. The final buzzer is approaching. So fuck the playing field. I’m tired. Sign me up for radical refuturing.

This is tribal sovereignty. This is acknowledging our shared humanity. This is trusting science. This is Indigenous generosity despite 500+ years of colonization and violence.
The Chickasaw Nation is now offering COVID-19 vaccines at no cost to all Oklahoma residents. There are no tribal citizenship or employee requirements. Schedule your appointment online at COVIDVaccine.Chickasaw.net

Telling an Indigenous person who grew up on the land w/ subsistence hunting to not eat meat is unethical. I get that the climate impact of not eating meat is compelling, but Indigenous folks aren't killing this planet. It's the opposite. Ok, I'm gonna go enjoy my elk burger now!

‼️The Northern Cheyenne Nation has elected ALL women for the first time ever as Tribal President, Vice President, & all 5 open seats on Tribal Council‼️ This has never happened before. It’s an amazing day to be a Cheyenne woman! The next 4 years for my Tribe will be good years.

All this white male fragility makes me laugh so I'm going to change my name for the time being to Dr. Dr. Desi because I earned TWO PhDs and I have the audacity to claim all the honorifics. #DOCTORJillBiden

I feel ridiculous even tweeting this bc I’m so privileged. Still, I don’t come from wealth. I’ve worked hard af to get here. Hard work is not enough. LA is a place of fading dreams. I arrived hopeful that I could build a stable life w my son. 2nd time denied a mortgage. Ugh!
