I can't remember if I said this before on here. This has links to all the posts I did over the summer about writing my book - writers block, intellectual loneliness and intellectual community, how I revised, etc. legalhistoryblog.blogspot.com/2020/07/thank-…

I talked to my mom today. She was being treated badly at her retail job. She got fed up and quit on the spot. I'm very proud of her. She said a manager called her and was like 'I can't believe you'd do this to us!' and she went 'you know how you fire a lot of single parents?'

There's an expression something like "if there's a nazi at the table and five other people sitting there who know he's a nazi making polite dinner conversation with him, then there's six nazis at the table." One might quibble with details like 'are they all REALLY nazis' but the

He goes 'yeah, when they violate the attendance policy.' She goes 'well, I'm firing the company for not living up to its core values.' 'What?! You can't fire the company.' 'Sure I can. I just did. I fired the company. I quit.' and she hung up on him.

(She also said she called one of my aunts just before and went 'I want you to give me permission to quit my job right now.' My aunt went 'oh wow I need to think about that' [pause for the time it takes to light a cigarette] 'yeah okay quit your job.')

tonight we took the kids to see some bands they're into (me too!), 7yo wanted to stand up front. 7yo recently started drum lessons, was drumming along on her chest. person next to me tapped me and went 'she a drummer?' 'yeah' 'me too! so's she!' pointed to someone else. They came

'People dislike the Make The World Worse Machine as they learn more about how the machine makes the world worse, what a paradox!'
Research reveals a paradox: the more people understand AI, the more hesitant they may become to embrace it. s.hbr.org/46DQLOW

This is funny but I think framing it as the Dems fumbled and lost because they're so incompetent isn't really accurate, it's closer to a boxer taking a dive because for behind-the-scenes reasons there's more money in losing the match.
The Democrats fumbled the shutdown so spectacularly, it can only be described as “New York Giants-esque”

I just remembered when Trump was quoted something like 'I could shoot a guy in the street and not lose the support of my base' and people went 'yeah well HIS base are disgusting fanatics!' but now it turns out Biden can basically bomb like 10 thousand kids and keep his base too.

If you give someone a fish they'll eat for a day. But if you teach someone to conduct workshops on how hungry people can practice self-care then you dodge the question of why people are hungry while also cutting the fish budget and the savings can be passed on to the shareholders

up to us afterward to chat, they were like 'we were drummers when we were kids, we'd each usually be the only girl drummer around, girl drummers rule!' Then one of them chatted drums w/ the 7yo and the other told me about finding riot grrrl really lifechanging. it was real nice.

Me when a student asks a question the answer to which is in the syllabus: Why didn't they read what I wrote!? Me when installing our new washing machine: This manual has a lot of boring words in it and I can't remember the only paragraph I read, I bet I can just wing this.

The moral clarity of the students followed by the university president responding to 'in your personal and professional opinion as an educator, is this a genocide?' by taking a long pause then refusing to answer, this summarizes so much about the US right now.
Morehouse students grill their President on having Biden @ graduation "There's a possibility of a genocide happening & we're seeing our government continually sending more & more weapons." "We the students telling you we see it as 'that's being complicit!'"

heart of the point seems true and very importantly so. If that's correct, and I think it is, then I think this applies to everyone in both major political parties in the US. The only way it wouldn't would if there's some important difference between being in the same party and
