it’s official. my mom’s phone number has been reassigned to someone new. it’s the little things like this that sting. knowing she’s not on the other end of the emergency contact number i’ve memorized since childhood. no longer just a call away.
girl in the world
- Replying to @drewgougeyeah they go back into circulation after a line is closed
- Replying to @mooopsy2. the screenshot was from a groupchat with our extended family. i don’t think the new person with her phone number was rude or arrogant for responding in that way. i actually reached out earlier to give them context in case they get any other messages:
- Replying to @mooopsylet it be known to all: 1. my dad and i were (and ARE) totally fine with the number being reassigned to someone else now. it was an intentional decision. letting go of it brought a certain kind of closure to us, but ofc it was not an easy choice. would not have done otherwise
- thank you to the thousands of folks on here who have shown kindness and support. my mom mylene passed away unexpectedly in december at age 63 of a sudden stroke. she was my very best friend. i occasionally write about her and her wonderful life here: open.substack.com/pub/michellega…it’s official. my mom’s phone number has been reassigned to someone new. it’s the little things like this that sting. knowing she’s not on the other end of the emergency contact number i’ve memorized since childhood. no longer just a call away.
- Replying to @mooopsy3. everyone grieves differently so please be kind to all! there are certain things my family and i are comfortable letting go of, and other things we won’t be ready to let go of (for a while or even forever) ❤️ BE KIND!!!
- opened up my first zoom lecture and forgot that i’d been using zoom to talk to friends over the summer so yeah my professor just witnessed “Dumb Thicc Stupid Baby” enter his 9 AM class... and what about it
- Replying to @mooopsyp.s. — everyone copes differently after the loss of a loved one. keeping a number active in perpetuity is valid. letting go of a number is also valid. be respectful on my page please and thank you xoxo
- Replying to @mooopsy4. my insta is in my bio & my substack is on my page if you’d like to read more about my saint of a mother or just to connect ❤️🩹 my heart is with ALL of you who have shared your experiences and been vulnerable about your grief. incredibly moved and grateful for your empathy.
GIF - My mom suffered a spontaneous brain bleed/stroke this morning (no warning signs). She will not make it. By the grace of God I was able to fly home to be with her but she doesn’t have long now. Please pray for her. And for us, because I don’t know how I’m going to keep going.
