- I’ve been warning people to prepare themselves for the worst aesthetic era of our lifetimes (and remember, we’ve already survived Hummers, Linkin Park, Fear Factor, etc) but I fear nothing can prepare us for what’s to come…BOMB ft. North West & Chicago West
00:00 - HNY to me! New Thiel Foundation 990 (from 2023) just dropped. Always a fun way to follow Peter Thiel's interests. He's not a big giver (gave $4.3m in 2023), but even the small grants contain interesting clues about where his head is at. Thread! 🧵
- can the aloof wife bring an end to the absolute nonsense of the thumb-free gen z heart hands once and for allThese pictures of Zohran and especially Rama 😭😭... That '🫶🏻' 🤣
- Replying to @mjnblackBut you know me, I want to know what IDEAS Thiel is supporting: Looks like he put $120k into this book:
- Replying to @mjnblackAnd $686.5k for Horseshoe Mag Inc, which appears to share an EIN with @compactmag, which "seeks a new political center devoted to the common good." Current homepage article is by Dimes Square playwright Matthew Gasda lol. Wonder if that refers to Horseshoe Theory?
- I have begged Vivian Wilson for an interview about 100x, so I'm definitely jealous, but holding out for the Teen Vogue cover story was 100% the right power move. These photos!!! teenvogue.com/story/vivian-j…
- Replying to @mjnblackThiel's giving remains pretty consistent year after year. The main grants given out are for the Thiel Fellowship ($100k for young startup founders willing to forgo a college education) and the Imitatio Grant (supports research/publications related to René Girard's mimetic theory)
- Replying to @mjnblackAnyway, if you're a 990 freak like me... enjoy! I'm sure there's plenty in here I missed:
- This one goes out to everyone who's looked at me like I was nuts when I talked about my work over the last 3 years 😘✌️
- today is my last day at The Information! 🎉 if you're an editor (including book ed!) w/ a strong vision about all the fascinating ways tech, culture, and politics converge, pls reach out: [email protected] so much respect for the reporters I've worked with here, keep it up❤️
- Replying to @mjnblackThe biggest single grant in 2023 ($1.26m) was to DonorsTrust, a conservative/libertarian donor-advised fund that supported groups like the Cato Institute, the Federalist Society, and Legion of Christ that year.
