#STLCards Bill DeWitt Jr. after firing Matheny b4 the 2018 All-Star break:
“In some places a winning record, or even .500, is even acceptable. Not with this city, not with this franchise, not with its history, and not with the fans."
What about now Bill? Who gets sacked?

- There was a light inside of Lou Brock that brightened every place and space he entered. A light that warmed every person he encountered. Grace. Dignity. Class. Joy. His generosity of spirit touched so many. I’ve never known a finer man. #RIPLou ... Long may you run.
- For the fourth consecutive summer the Cardinals’ front office did virtually nothing at the trade deadline to help a contending team. Shame on them.
- The Cardinals franchise was in a bad spot when DeWitt bought it. He did a great job of putting together a successful operation for one of the greatest eras of Cardinals baseball. But franchise leadership let the system/product go stale. And now it’s rotting. Sad.
- I don’t often get personal on here. But the Pujols experience in 2022 has moved me in ways I didn’t anticipate. I was there in the press box at Arizona for his first career homer. I’m sitting here at home in the blissful darkness, watching No. 700. It’s just extraordinary.
- State of the Cardinals: a lot of $$$ invested in aging talent. Young “next generation” stars with derails in development. Signing old dudes to sit on bench. Marketing-branding all about former legends; still milking the past. The feel-good pill isn’t working anymore.
- Bad record. Bad starting pitching. Bad offense. Bad bullpen. Bad defense. Overwhelmed manager, underwhelming front office. Phenom prospect sent to minors. Al Hrabosky on postgame show, talking about broadcasters jumping out of buildings. What the hell is going on? #STLCards
- I don't know why he did it -- he was sick -- but Rick Hummel chatted ball with on my Friday radio show. His voice was shaky. But in his usual display of kindness, he was there. Less than 18 hours later he was gone. I wish I would have said "I love you" as we ended our chat.
- I am told Alabama can’t match Ohio State resume. I suppose that’s correct. It takes a very special team to lose a home game by 15 points and also get walloped by 31 on the road at Iowa. #CaseClosed
- The St. Louis Blues played their first regular-season NHL game on Oct. 11, 1967. .. 51 years, 7 months and 18 days later — 18,585 days in all — they’ve won their first game in a Stanley Cup Final.

- Exactly 14 years ago today, i had the honor of marrying this extraordinary woman. Overcome with happiness and powerful emotions, I wept during the ceremony. I truly believe she saved my life.
- More from DeWitt after he sacker Matheny on July 14, 2018: "Continuity is desirable, but when it's not working, you feel like a change needs to be made,” Bill, your team is 16 games under .500. What are you gonna do? #STLCards
- One more before I try to get back to sleep. Thanks to the @101espn listeners for your support. And for putting up with me. It was a privilege to work for you. I remain deeply humbled by your outpouring of kindness over the weekend.
