As @mikesorrell2029 approaches the end of his freshman year, I am in a reflective mood. It is humbling to witness my little boy take affirmative steps to becoming a man. His voice is deeper, his decisions sounder, and the determination with which he chases his dreams is

People don’t really understand what this number means or the magnitude of the loss caused by this gap. There simply is no area of American life that would not have been significantly improved if HBCUs had been fairly funded. This is not an exaggeration. 1/
HBCUs have been underfunded by $12 billion, federal officials reveal npr.org/2023/10/06/120…

I am curious about something. How many of you participated in Work Study at your college or university?

Two things: 1) excellent job by my friend @RafaelAnchia in using historical facts to rebut this foolishness and 2) anyone who believes that his opponent didn’t know any of this history is naive. He knew, but probably didn’t think anyone would call him on it. FYI: We all know
That moment when he realizes he put a Jim Crow-era slogan in the bill he’s claiming isn’t voter suppression😬

Dear administrators who are scolding students for messing up your ill-conceived plans: instead of blaming the students, perhaps we should analyze why you put them in that position in the first place.

Someone recently asked me for the best advice that I ever received. It came from my mother on her deathbed. She told me: “Michael, don’t ever be so busy making a life for your family that you miss the life of your family.” I have tried to heed that advice daily. Thank you, Mom.

Eleven years ago today I suffered a sudden cardiac death episode. I had a 2.5% chance of living and regaining all of my faculties. Thank you, Lord for the gift of these 11 yrs that brought me my wife, two wonderful kids, and a life filled with the purpose of #nationbuilding 🙏🏾

Those of us who work in the #HBCU space almost inherently understand the irony of our lives. In many circles our institutions and community are looked down upon as inferior. When, in reality, it would be extraordinarily difficult for most PWI peers to succeed in our worlds. 1/

My son and I watched the @BetoORourke and @GregAbbott_TX debate. He had the same question that I am sure many Texans have: “Why only one debate?” We’ll go through the proper channels tomorrow, but we invite you to have a second debate to be held @PaulQuinn1872. 1/

Dear Higher Ed: There is absolutely no way to consistently control, regulate, police - or whatever term you choose - the social engagement of 18-25 year olds on most college campuses. You have to know that. That is a big reason why in-person learning cannot work right now.

I would like to address the disingenuous way many people are comparing the Capitol riot and the BLM protests from this summer. Anyone who engages in even the slightest amount of critical thought knows that these occurrences are not fruit born of the same tree.

I am so tired of the entire "HBCUs are in trouble" narrative. Broaden your scope and you see a different truth - the higher ed franchise is in trouble. Ironically, b/c HBCUs have done more with less for so long, we are better situated to thrive in this environment than our peers

I am about to become deeply involved in Georgia politics for the first time in my life. Donations. Phone banking. Hell, I may even hope on a flight and beat the streets. #50isthenew270
