I chatted with Lakers guard Austin Reaves about his eye-opening Korn Ferry qualifying round, LeBron’s PGA Tour investment, the YouTube golf space, Sahith Theegala’s putting, mental toughness in basketball vs. golf, and a whole lot more.
LeBron James concluded his postgame press conference by rhetorically wondering why the media hasn’t asked him about the Jerry Jones 1957 Little Rock photo, after he was asked about the Kyrie Irving situation. LeBron said he was “disappointed” that he hasn’t been asked about Jones
D'Angelo Russell on LeBron: "He's the first person I saw play in the NBA ... My dad took me to my first NBA game ... I was a big LeBron fan. He did that signature dunk, and I remember crying...I was like, this is where I want to be. He's inspired me without even knowing it."
Austin Reaves on what the Lakers bench said to him after he got thrown into the front row and drinks got spilled:
Austin: I asked Bron if that was his Lobos over there. It smelled horrible.
AD: I'm an investor, bro.
AR: That don't mean it don't taste good.
AD: That a boy.
🤣
Rob Pelinka just mentioned on ESPN that the Lakers have had talks with Anthony Davis about going back to the two-big model they used with Dwight Howard/JaVale McGee. Pelinka said it was a big reason why Jaxson Hayes was signed
Rui Hachimura on the Lakers finding their identity: "I've been telling em, like, this is who we are. We've been trying like a lot of different things, lineups, all this stuff. But this is the lineup we had in the playoffs, and that's how we won. So, you know, it's that simple."
LeBron is now 19 points behind Karl Malone for No. 2 on the all-time scoring list. After playing 45 minutes tonight, one has to assume he'll take Lakers-Wizards off tomorrow and pass the Mailman in...Cleveland. Who could have seen this coming!
