I keep saying this but, it needs repeating. We have youth sports all wrong. Dr James Andrews- “Athletes ages 14-and-under should have a two-month break with no organized leagues or intense training, Three to four would be better. Do conditioning, flexibility and strength work."

This might be one of the smartest, simplest, most creative ideas I’ve seen...
Getting into the frontal plane doesn’t start and end with strength work, it applies to conditioning as well.

I know I’ll catch some 💩for this but, if you’re a high school athlete you should not be doing bodypart workouts. I’m amazed when I talk to kids who say they “did back” today. Not sure how we shift that message? I know it won’t be by coaches arguing about it here. 😉

My "bad program" tweet got over 200 likes. Lets see what a good programming tweet gets. Programming 101 - high school kids need 2 or 3 day total body programs - 1 explosive exercise - 1 ea Push, pull, knee dominant, hip dominant - Pair push and knee dominant, pair pull and hip

One of my favorite stories …

Conditioning at the end of practice can be dumb. If you ran a good practice there should be very little need to run at the end. PS-conditioning at the end has a higher probability of injuring a player than making them mentally tough. PPS- sprints early in practice is a good idea

Coaches if you haven’t already gone to a M-Th summer format, you should. No one’s getting stronger or faster because you took Wed off. However I can guarantee you that three day weekends all summer will improve your quality of life. Bonus- attendance for us improved.

Most people like to complicate things to make themselves feel smart, smart people like to simplify things.

The US has a “sick care” system, not a health care system. Virus response - close gyms. Vaccine plan- prioritize the obese and smokers? So, eat, stop exercising and start smoking? “Common sense is not very common”

I’m going to get in trouble for this but males training without shirts in the weightroom just screams “unprofessional “ to me. PS- this is Twitter. This is my opinion. You are welcome to yours.

Best advice for youth sports parents. Keep repeating these three things - I love you - I love watching you play - Are you having fun?

Everybody who trains kids should follow these guys. I’m amazed at how well they mass produce quality movement.

I can’t believe coaches buy machines. Give me 20 bench’s, 20 sets of Powerblocks, 20 18” boxes and we can train a team of 60 at once. Machines don’t make business sense. They cost too much money, take up too much space and do 1 thing. And then there’s the function argument.
