Some personal news: this will be my final season on the Boston Herald High School Sports beat. I’ve accepted a position within the Chicago Cubs organization for the 2019 season that allows me to pursue my dream of working in Major League Baseball.

- Due to months of hard work, Massachusetts has a chance to enjoy luxuries this fall that not many other states will be able to - school and sports. Don’t ruin it all. Wear the mask.
- The MIAA Board of Directors has approved the recommended football modifications by a vote of 22-0. Notable modifications: 45 players on the game day roster, six coaches, team box to the 10-yard line. There will be an MIAA High School Football Season beginning February 22nd.
- It has been 674 days since high school spring sports took place in Massachusetts. That finally changes today.
- Any high school not allowing out of season coaching to take place throughout the entire year this year is doing a great disservice to their student-athletes.
- King Philip head coach Brian Lee on playing Catholic Memorial in the Super Bowl “I can’t bring them in at 4 in the morning in the offseason to make them that good - I just can’t do it.” Full quote:
- The MIAA Board of Directors meeting is over. The winter sports season will begin December 14th. Basketball, Ice hockey, Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, Gymnastics, and Swimming and Diving will all have seasons.
- Danny Ventura, the face of high school sports in New England for over the last 30 years, is retiring from the Boston Herald in August. Ventura started at the Herald in 1991 and has since served as the go-to source for information for coaches, student-athletes, and ADs.
- Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker today on if schools should go to remote learning in the wake of COVID-19 Omicron case surge. "No. Kids need to be in school. If we learned anything from this pandemic, it's the damage that was done to kids should never be repeated."
- The criticism of ESPN during this is insanity. There is no script or playbook to handle a situation like this. Joe Buck handled a horrendous situation like a total pro.
- The MIAA COVID-19 Task Force voted to send these recommendations to the MIAA Board of Directors on Wednesday:
- Gorgeous day for some Massachusetts high school football
- The MIAA Board of Directors has voted 24-0 to adopt the Task Force recommendation and begin the fall athletic season on September 18th.
- An investigative report must be done on the relationship between parents that scream "let the kids play!" and the parents most likely to drop their high school kids off at a party that leads to a two week quarantine and shutdown of athletics.
