ultimately, the world I’m fighting for is one where we can more easily exit the cage of ourselves to see other people fully, to inhabit our shared humanity with generosity and without sacrifice, and to love unguardedly and without fear of loss, which is another name for dignity.

one of the things that fascinates me about taylor swift is how dead clothes look on her. she can be covered in sequins but fail to channel camp or glam, in a form-fitting black dress but fail to be sensual, dressed down and fail to look effortless

what taylor represents is the triumph of the everywoman, not in the sense of economic or social averageness—she is, after all, white and affluent even before the record deals—but in the sense of cultural and artistic mediocrity

the gutting of the infrastructure bill tells me that the ruling class is not sufficiently scared of the working class. we have to keep building our power until we are so utterly terrifying that just considering such betrayal makes all of congress simultaneously shit their pants
