Canada: it was a close fight, but even the conservative leader lost his seat Australia: hold my beer

What other kind of product is so *embarrassing* that people feel compelled to explain it? No, no I didn’t really buy this thing. Honestly I didn’t. Twitter Blue will be a marketing case study for years to come

Good morning Australia. Penny Wong will be our Foreign Minister. This makes me inexplicably happy

If Gladys had locked Sydney down as soon as the first couple of cases emerged in Bondi—rather than waiting 12 days because it was a “too much of a burden”—the rest of Australia wouldn’t be in lockdown too. NZ wouldn’t be in lockdown.

I will never get used to these high daily death counts, nor will I accept them as a reasonable price for “living with covid”

Katie Hopkins published a video where she explains how she’s deliberately exposing our quarantine hotel workers to risk—by not wearing a mask and not waiting 30 seconds to open the door. Throw the book at her Australia. She’s taken the video down now but it’s archived.

It’s really hard to listen to Frydenberg as he touts economic strength and more jobs etc: over 40,000 of my colleagues in higher education have recently lost their jobs due to the coalition’s absolute hatred of universities.

The Berejiklian government GAVE US this outbreak. We owe them nothing. They could have locked down when there were only a couple of cases in Bondi and kept Australia at covid zero. They didn’t. So here we are.

Imagine if the Australian grid was *already* running on 100% renewables. We wouldn’t be at the mercy of global energy markets and supply. It’d be cheaper too.

It just boggles my mind that people who are literally descended from immigrants are protesting immigration in Melbourne today. Unless you’re an indigenous Australian you came from somewhere else.

Jo Hildebrand: See! lockdowns don’t work!! Australia: you mean they don’t work in NSW. They’ve worked in every other state.

The irony of a Silicon Valley guy tweeting “I got a higher credit limit on my Apple Card than my wife did” and it finally draws media attention to algorithmic bias is not lost on me
