Part of what makes Rome so good is its fascinating relationship to historical accuracy where like not a lot of the costuming or even the specific story is accurate but it is absolutely nails something incredibly true about Ancient Rome that a lot of other media fails to cover
If the tv show Rome aired today, historical costume enthusiasts would be going off about the amount of tailoring in these pieces. Cutting and sewing and darting all over the place when that would not be the case in Ancient Rome.
I really liked how Lord Darklyn emphasized how much Criston was not deserving of the White Cloak, very meaningful for the Darklyns, who in A Feast for Crows are mentioned to have produced more members of the Kingsguard than any other House
idk why they always use this one for engagement farming. it's alicent. it's never not going to be alicent. alicent was crying when she walked in. if she wasn't, she started crying when cersei makes a pass at rhaenyra. or maybe she just cries seeing three hot blonde women at once
Sometimes you just need a show about Ancient Rome where the relevant textual source isn't Plutarch but that graffiti from Pompey that says "Theophilus, stop eating out girls against the city wall like a dog"
HBO's Rome depicts the late Republic as a society dominated by ludicrous violence, insane political opinions, soul-crushing mommy issues and graft and greed and sleaze that was absolutely the case
I do feel like there's a lot of misunderstanding about Alicent and Rhaenyra's relationship in the first season into the second that comes from people not fully understanding Alicent's reaction to the Driftmark fight
I think Alicent saying she actually didn't really care about Criston Cole at all surprised Larys quite a bit, he thought this was something he could kind of use against her but in reality, it never meant anything to her
