Saying a trans woman is male is not opinion, it is fact. We are in a dangerous place when journalists are “spoken to” for reporting facts. To do so is so fundamental to our job that I would be interested to know if this would be a ground for constructive dismissal.

I have just been informed, then blocked, by an educator with a trans child that I am transphobic for insisting that journalists should report only facts in their news coverage. This is where we have got to.

This has done it for me. I know I don’t do much for @guardian any more but I will not write for the paper again until its reporters, editors and management show they understand what a fact is, and stop deceiving their readers.

Have felt sick and sad all day. Also, lucky not to be dead. Beyond lucky that my children aren't dead. We shouldn't have to feel grateful that we've not been killed by some monster we once loved. But I do. And I'm so, so horrified for what these women's family must now endure.
