The fires in Los Angeles County are climate change in action. Today, I spoke with @BBCWorld about how drought is causing devastating impacts in what should be the rainy season. Thanks to climate change, the fire season in California is now year round.
This is a lump of coal. Super weird the Republican controlled Department of Energy thinks it has a gender. Oh and NBD, but coal caused 1 in 3 miners to get black lung disease in the 1970s, shortening their lives by a decade.
The Senate Republicans' plan: kill jobs of the future, jack up energy bills, tax wind and solar projects, and create shortages during a time of surging electricity demand. Don't be surprised if we see blackouts if this big terrible bill passes.
This is downtown Santa Barbara right now. The No Kings protest stretches for over a mile along the water. The cars who drive by are all honking in support. Probably the biggest protest this community has ever seen.
Today, House Republicans are unveiling their plan to increase energy bills and pollution for everyday Americans, just to give billionaires another tax break. A summary of their proposals. THREAD! 🧵
The Republican controlled Senate has released their Finance committee text. On energy policy, it improves slightly over the House bill — but it will still gut clean energy projects, killing jobs largely in Republican districts. This is a garbage bill. 🧵
Just another way Trump is jacking up energy bills for everyday Americans: he's keeping expensive, dirty coal plants open that no one wants or needs. Not even the utilities who own the plants!
Sen. Tina Smith D-MN just chased down Sen. Mike Lee R-UT, who tweeted multiple times in recent days that Democrats were to blame for the Minnesota shootings

Who is responsible for these climate disasters, like the devastating fires in LA? It's fossil fuel companies who lied about climate change for decades. They should be paying for the damages, as New York and Vermont will soon require. I spoke about this on @democracynow today.
Cutting off Medicaid, cutting off heating for poor people in the deep of winter, cutting off states from disaster assistance — including Republican states. What Trump is doing is unconstitutional and illegal.
Perhaps Justice Scalia said it best when Nixon did the same thing.
