It occurs to me that Unity's new pricing model incentivizes developers to get people to buy their games but then never install them. Steam players, you know what to do. You've been preparing all your lives for this moment. Remember your training.

I have a feeling that humanity is currently facing a very strong evolutionary bottlenecking event that is selecting for resilience to entertainment.

Due to my elite programming skills, I figured out how to shave off THIRTY SECONDS from my app's startup time. Here's some optimization tips: 1. Remove the sleep(30) call you added a month ago and forgot about

Sure everyone's impressed when a 20 year old game developer does all the art and music and programming themselves, but can we all just be impressed by 35+ year old developers with spouse+mortgage+kids opening the code editor at 8:30 AM without spilling coffee on their pants

In my day job I analyze blockchain games, and the only ones so far I've found that deal in real money and are plausibly "sustainable" are the kind where most players should expect to regularly lose money
a New Year's letter from the Square Enix president talks about new tech/concepts including NFTs, the metaverse, and particularly how blockchain games "hold the potential to enable self-sustaining game growth" bit.ly/3HnWubV

Stupid exercise: Assume AGI and even ASI is imminent. Now, imagine it winds up not changing the world nearly as much as anyone thought, and the reason seems very stupid, but in retrospect, makes sense. What is the reason?

I grew up in the 80s and 90s and remember being bored all the time. Now every moment is filled with super stimulus.

Okay, the day has finally come. I am forced to grudgingly admit that I have found a blockchain game that legitimately does something with Blockchain that is genuinely new, innovative, and that you can't do with a centralized service. That game is Dark Forest.

Genuine question: which kills more birds in an average year, SpaceX launches, or pet cats owned by the employees of the New York Times?
Can someone tell the New York Times that it's possible to move birds nests? And that sometimes, to go to fucking space, you have to break a few eggs?

My very lukewarm Elon take - He has accomplished great things that probably wouldn't have been accomplished without him - He did not accomplish those things alone - His worst enemy is himself and he makes tons of unforced errors - I am glad SpaceX and Tesla exist

As someone who has had the worst come to pass to my son, I pray that your child’s cup of suffering is taken away. And if not, know that you will find a way to endure and give all the love you can amidst what comes

To this day, I am super mad at all the people who put for the codswallop that HTML5 was this perfect replacement for Flash. It's been 10 years since "Thoughts on Flash" was published and HTML5 STILL doesn't (in actual practice) replicate what mattered about Flash.

After months of incredible growth, the daily earnings of the typical player of Axie Infinity (a "scholar" in the Philippines) have fallen below the Philippines' minimum wage line for all but the high ranking players, and even they have seen earnings decline since August
