it’s so infuriating when y’all talk like this as if wearing the same color as the bride isn’t a taboo in other cultures too. if some other lady decides she’s gonna wear red at my wedding she’s not coming inside. “desi guests wear their own wedding dresses—!” yeah one of the FIVE.

also it’s quite easy to spot the bride in a western wedding because she’s gonna be the one in white lol. and the main distinguishing feature between an indian bride and a guest is the bridal jewelry/hair, which a sufficiently narcissistic guest could easily appropriate

exactly! and the not wearing white rule isn’t so that the guests don’t “outshine” the bride, it’s so that in photos there’s very clearly ONE bride 🤦‍♀️ + it’s not uncommon for groups of women to do dress codes for their birthdays so the birthday girl stands out, why not a wedding?

so you agree, there’s certain rules of etiquette + bridal items that guests don’t wear even in desi weddings. in a white wedding, wearing white *is* dressing up as a bride.
