OH (from an awesome Lyft driver): “Today has been great. I’ve been blessed by the algorithm.”
Immediately had an eerie feeling that this could become an increasingly common way to describe a day.

- A good reminder that @CommunityNotes code and data is open source, making it possible to do public analyses of its performance and attributes, like this one today from @VitalikButerin 👇What do I think about Community Notes? vitalik.eth.limo/general/2023/0…
- How social media can be governed by the voice of the people 🙋♀️🙋🙋♂️👇 People prefer self-governance IRL, so why not do it online too?Buried underneath all of the froth happening on Twitter at the moment is an experiment more exciting than anything I’ve seen tried by a tech giant. I explain what’s going on for @WIRED wired.com/story/elon-mus…Readers added context they thought people might want to knowReaders added contextThe stated goal of Birdwatch is "to add helpful context to Tweets and keep people better informed." It is not to facilitate self-governance or even perform content moderation. twitter.github.io/birdwatch/
- When we started @CommunityNotes, all the concept testing showed people across the political spectrum wanted it. But could we build it? Would it work? Half a million contributors later, four new unaffiliated/external research studies + large scale stats show how effective it is.
- Say hello to Community Notes 👋
- I’ve been meaning to post the graphs of the usage spike over the past week. But the best part is we don’t need to, because the data is all public and people like @AlexMahadevan can do an even deeper analysis!👇"It's becoming a bit of a battlefield." The use of @birdwatch since @elonmusk bought Twitter has exploded. In the five days after the sale, *131 notes/day*. Compared to the *45/day* since Birdwatch context notes went public and before the sale.
- Definitely gratifying to see something go from coffee shop Figma to industry standard. How it started / How it's going
- It’s now common that @CommunityNotes have millions of views. Now multiply that by their impact—on avg ppl are: • 20-40% less likely to agree with substance of a Tweet after seeing note • 15-35% less likely to RT/Like Nontrivial # of people better informed. Go contributors 🚀
- In addition the study Bloomberg cites, a recent study found @CommunityNotes were perceived as significantly more trustworthy than traditional, simple misinformation flags — across the political spectrum! And had a greater effect on improving people’s identification of misleading
- One small pull request for man, one giant leap for open source social media algorithms written by and for humankind. This is a big deal.Today we accepted the first Community Notes code change from a member of the public. For the first time ever, we’re now scoring and displaying notes using code written by people outside the company. Incredibly exciting, and we look forward to more. github.com/twitter/commun…
- Next generation of journalists should be able to make a living doing it on Twitter. After many years, great to see it becoming possible…pretty cool to see a bunch of people getting a decent amount of money for tweeting
- Replying to @ubiquity75Hey Sarah - We actually all think the name change is a good idea. In fact, it was the original name of Birdwatch! We’ve seen our contributors trying to explain what Birdwatch is, and we think a simpler more intuitive name will help understanding. Check out the very first mock-up:
- This is probably the single largest improvement to average note quality we have ever made. Holiday gift for our top contributors who invest so much to bring helpful context to Tweets. Thank you! 🎁In September, we began requiring that new contributors unlock the ability to write notes by first making valuable ratings. This increased average note quality so much that, today, we are retroactively requiring that all contributors meet these criteria in order to write notes.
- I flew yesterday on a plane with @Starlink. Worked from the tarmac (no waiting til 10k ft), fast, free, and didn't require any airline wifi login - just worked. A pretty amazing step up from what we've had for the past ~15-20yrs.• 700+ Aircraft committed with Starlink • 180+ Aircraft flying globally with Starlink • 90,000+ flight hours • 52,000+ flights • 350 MBPS average download speeds • 59 ms average latency worldwide
