Telling the truth about COVID is increasingly becoming an act of resistance. #equity #Equality

15 yo: “My art teacher said something that made me mad, but I’m POSITIVE that you’re going to be more mad than me.” Me: (braces) “Okay. What was it?” 15 yo: “She used masks as an example of a trend, said now that the pandemic is over they’re not useful, but some people… 1/2

The photographer at picture day said she had to take her mask off for her photo. She said she would do no such thing and held her ground when they continued to push. Proud Momma moment ❤️ But seriously, #BringBackMasks

“…choose to wear them to express themselves.” Friends, this is a REMOTE teacher. We are 4 yrs into a pandemic driven by an AIRBORNE virus. We are facing a potential #Measles epidemic in Canada. Measles is also airborne. Respirators are some of the most useful tools we have.

I lied. There’s a part 3 because my daughter is right. I’m mad. But COME ON. Public Health. Government. Educators. Anyone who is supposed to be a grown up in the room. STEP. UP.

17 yo daughter: “(Friend) asked if he could bring a four pack of Monster to the party.” Me: “So, energy drinks are what people bring to high school parties now?” 17 yo: “Yeah, sometimes. It’s weird, though. You’d think he wouldn’t drink them after the heart attack last year.”

I told my daughter she has my support 💯should she decide to tell her teacher about the trend of pretending the pandemic is over so masks aren’t needed, despite the absolute mountain of evidence to the contrary.

COVID isn’t just the nasty cold/flu/virus that knocked your friend out of commission last week. It’s the new onset diabetes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, cognitive dysfunction, reproductive issues, autoimmune disease, etc., etc. that is both nowhere & suddenly everywhere.

Buckled up and ready to go. Safety chic. 😉

So, telling a cardiologist he was spouting lies wasn’t on my agenda for today, but I guess plans changed. In 2024, there is absolutely NO excuse for telling a HEART patient that wearing a mask will “ruin your immune system.”

Today my hairdresser told me that viruses, specifically SARS-CoV-2, invariably become less of a threat as they evolve. I gently challenged this assertion. Apparently, I am wrong because an epidemiologist told her this information. I am tired. Thoughts and prayers?

I will not normalize children being sick all of the time. No, it is not “normal” for them to be sick all summer. It is not.

My 13 year old daughter is feeling pretty nervous about her chances of getting into the art program at a high school in our city. She sketched this portrait of her little brother when she was 12. Any encouragement for the nervous artist?

Heading into the grocery store, mask goes on. Period, the end. Am I tired of this? Yes. Do I like wearing a mask? Nope. Does that change my behaviour? Also Nope. Why? Because this was never about what I ‘felt’ like doing. Head up. Shoulders back. Deep breath. Onward.
