There are 35k non UK doctors currently working in the NHS. We train a TOTAL 7k doctors a yr in UK medical schools. If we *doubled* medical places *overnight* (not gonna happen), given training times, we could not even break even in less than 10 yrs. What a bullshit commitment.
EXC: Dido Harding will seek to end Britain's reliance on foreign doctors and nurses if she becomes the next head of the NHS UK will instead become "net exporter" of medical professionals in long term boost for "GB Plc" She'll also resign as a Tory peer More details here👇

You cannot - you simply cannot - go and give f-in evidence to a f-in select committee and make a point, and then when asked to substantiate it, say “I mean I dunno, i’m not an expert”.
here is the clip - first it's cos girls don't like the maths, which is then "a natural thing" and then she's totally fine with physics a-level only being 16% girls.

Heard from a school that has massive absence today because parents have worked out that between yesterday’s strike day, an unauthorised absence today, a bank holiday weekend, and a strike day on Tue, they can have 6 days off. One class of 32 has….8 kids in today.

“How do you know that you weren’t in Tramps that night?” “Because actually I remember that night very well. You see, I’d gone to see the wonderful Salisbury Cathedral, with its famous 123 metre spire....” #PrinceAndrew

A regular reminder that you had to be born in 1921 to have been eligible for national service when it was introduced, or 1930 to have served before it was scrapped. No one who is less than 94 years old has ever seen national service.

Front page of the Tel: universities are censoring history by only telling a partial story. Later in the Tel: the National Trust should be investigated because it wants to tell the whole story of history. Pick a fricking lane, guys

An extended case study on why this is a self defeating argument - using Teesside University, which Simon is rightly very proud of.
Our immigration policy doesn’t exist to prop up our university sector (which ranges from excellent to mediocre). As @NeilDotObrien has shown, the graduate visa route often leads into low paid work, not high-skilled jobs. A litmus test of seriousness about cutting immigration

I don’t understand how you can read the latest data in London + SE without crying. And I’m sending my kids into primary school tomorrow. Because they want to go and I think it’s good for their education + social development. I think I’m a terrible parent. I don’t know what to do.

In conversation with someone about why Ed Davey can pull off these cheesy stunts in a way that Clegg / Jo Swinson / Ming Campbell could never do. It’s because he’s Dad humour personified. He *is* centrist Dad
