We did a thing recently. All shared with patient permission. 979cc prostate with recurrent gross hematuria requiring transfusion and obstructive uropathy. <2 hours enucleation time. Home <48 hours later. @UABUrology is making waves! Enucleation is the answer! #allsizesfitone

I’m saddened but shouldn’t be as shocked as I was when a patient told me he was coming to me because his prior urologist attributed his elevated PSA to being homosexual and “the things you gays do with each other. I didn’t hold back. That urologist is a bigoted asshole. 😡😡😡😡

Totally get it. I skipped the winter meeting for @sufuorg as it was in Florida. I have 2 courses and a talk at AUA tho so I had to make a choice…would much prefer if @AmerUrological considered my female colleagues health needs for future locations…

“Patient’s insurance carrier has denied needed imaging to safely evaluate, diagnose and treat condition. In my opinion this is a necessary Dx/Tx intervention. This is solely the determination of insurance carrier and contrary to my medical opinion” -Me in EHR. Every time now.

Pt married 21 years and in tears over that statement. I was right there with him. If you’re a homophobe, you better block me now because I hate you and you are a horrible person…love is love….

I’ll repeat it. Again. The training I experienced didn’t make me a better doctor. It made me a more damaged person. Less empathetic, less altruistic and less wholesome. Those who cling to that system with “rose tinted glasses” are promoting Stockholm syndrome and PTSD….
WSJ covered resident unions today. Article dropped 3h ago; 400+ comments already. My fave is “There was no issue with work-life balance until women became MDs!” But don’t worry, Stockholm syndrome, the bootstraps brigade, and socialized medicine fearmongering are there, too.
Comment hypothesizing that women are to blame for this phenomenon, as there was no problem with “work life balance” until women entered medicine.
Warning from a physician who said that he felt abused in residency for $12,500 a year but now feels that it was his best learning experience.
Comments, noting that these cry babies didn’t get into veterinary school; gonna be a rude awakening when they start dealing with the insurance industry; and that the hours don’t get better after training.
Retired cardiologist noting that his best learning was at 3am.

Urologist: Sir, you really need to stop masturbating so much Patient: “doc, that’s just closed minded. It’s a natural and healthy thing to do” Doc: “Yes, but I’m trying to examine you”

My sister just delivering truth BOMBS.
The clitoris is a testosterone dependent organ. The vulvar glands are a testosterone dependent organ. I use low doses of testosterone in cis women all the time to treat conditions affecting these organs. There are no guidelines. We need more research. But the physiology is there

To the urology applicants: don’t spend money on a fancy ring light and expensive camera for your interview. I care about what you say not how you look. Please see any picture of me as evidence, looking good isn’t part of being a “successful” urologist….
