Proving how reactions to nature are cultural/social, our daughter's Dutch boyfriend, knowing nothing of FL or nature, found a huge cockroach in the guest suite, cradled it gently in his hands and released it outside saying "Go free, beautiful creature." So now he must stay.

Every mother's day I think of the time I didn't hear from my mom for 5 years and then got an email that read "Cars are being set on fire on the street here in Paris, but don't worry, I'm safe in the Algerian Quarter with Bernard." The whole email was wtf. Like, who is Bernard?

right up to the end, neo was nudging me, alert, wanted ear scritches, and let me hug him. the vet was astonished he was still eating and still so strong given the bloodwork. but that was neo. a big strong cat who loved us.

The Florida House just passed an anti-trans bill regarding athletics in schools. This bill includes *genital checks* of children and will likely be signed into law. It's disgusting and wrong and we need to vote out anyone who supported this. Just so wrong.

I want to emphasize this: Florida was more prepared for hurricanes fifteen years ago with much better regulation and land use ordinances than today. Developers have left us much more vulnerable by building in places they shouldn't have, aided and abetted by Republican governors.

Florida politicians have failed us while dismantling regulation and pandering to developers. This has made all of us less safe. You simply CANNOT build in parts of Florida without severe repercussions, but the legislature and developers have done so anyway.

Eventually, got over to Paris... she said to meet her on a particular day behind Notre Dame, she'll have on a beret. Hadn't seen her in 10 years. Lots of women her age wearing berets. "Are u my mom?" not a great gambit but all I had. None of them were. She'd gotten the day wrong.

One of the most controversial things you can say on this hell site is "keep your cats indoors." And it's getting worse. Talking the other day to someone trying to convince me there r huge environmental benefits to letting cats roam free. Felt like I was talking to an anti-vaxxer

Dude who 20 years ago w/o reading my novel at the time told me based on the title it was derivative of his own, and told me to come back in 20 years when I'd learned to be original...dude just asked for a blurb. Dude...is not getting a blurb.

Most all of these animals died in extreme agony and alone and without any notice whatsoever. We owe it to the natural world to bear witness to the effects of human actions. We need to understand in our gut what this means.
