I fear our political leaders do not understand the gravity of the situation. We need to rearm. We need a massive injection of capital into defence. The full power of the British state must be mobilised, and mobilised now...

After #Coronavirus, we must disentangle ourselves from #China's deeply authoritarian and untrustworthy regime. The #UK cannot allow itself to become economically or politically dependent on #China...

Look at that flag. That flag stands for something. It stands in defiance of tyranny. It is the greatest flag on Earth.

The difference between the #UK/#Poland and #France/#Germany is that the former want #Ukraine to win and #Russia to lose, while the latter merely want to stop the war, irrespective of the outcome. So long as the Ukrainians want to resist the aggressor, we must support them!

Wow... AUKUS, CPTPP, Hiroshima Accord, security assurances for Finland and Sweden, sustained and timely military support for Ukraine, ASEAN Dialogue Partner... What military support has the Irish Republic given to Ukraine? 🤔
UK is "disengaging from the world" says Irish PM @LeoVaradkar #Taoiseach #EPC #Brexit #ECHR

I’ve seen people asking if the cost of the missile used was greater than the drone the @RoyalNavy’s warship shot down. This is not the right question. The real question is: what was the cost of the drone’s intended target? And what would be the cost of making the #RedSea a danger
HMS Diamond has shot down a suspected attack drone targeting merchant shipping in the Red Sea - destroying the target with a Sea Viper missile.

Just pity him. The last three years have shown what can be achieved (#AUKUS, #CPTPP, #Ukraine, etc.) with vision and ambition. But how did he become the top civil servant in the national institution explicitly designed to secure British interests? 🧐

[Thread on the #EU/#NATO and deterrence] I keep hearing that an empowered EU, through Article 42.7 in the Treaty of Lisbon, could replace or complement @NATO’s Article 5. Anyone who thinks this is living in a dangerous fantasy world. Here’s why... [1/13]

The @RoyalNavy is the #UK’s greatest ambassador and weapon. As an island nation, dependent on trade and finance, including shipping insurance, we de-prioritise it at our peril...

No more babble about no-fly zones. Enforcing one over #Ukraine mandates the suppression of #Russia’s air defences. That means war. Let’s focus on delivering as many light anti-tank and anti-air missiles to Ukraine as possible, backed with intelligence and financial support! 🇬🇧🇺🇦

Every European needs to remember that #Europe cannot be secure without the ‘aligning power’ of the #UK. We’ve seen how important it has been to #Ukraine and @NATO’s Enhanced/Tailored forward presences. Imagine how vital it would be in the event of an attack on a @NATO ally...

Do three of these five prime ministers have no memory? Aid spending fell every year of Sir John Major's premiership. It reached an all-time low (0.24% of #GNI) under Tony Blair in 1999 and never exceeded 0.51% of GNI under Gordon Brown. Absurd hypocrisy!

It's shameful. It's also been spent on all manner of nonsense, including eel conservation in the #Philippines, coconut farms in the #Carribbean, and dance lessons in #Tanzania...

#France’s prestige and power in #Europe have fallen substantially in recent months. How can one promote European ‘strategic autonomy’ without the #UK and with policies opposed by much of Central and Eastern Europe? 🤷‍♂️
Macron: "We must not humiliate Russia so that the day when the fighting stops we can build an exit ramp through diplomatic means ... I am convinced that it is France's role to be a mediating power." Ooh boy, where to begin? reuters.com/world/europe/r…
