Personal news: I’m delighted to have been appointed News Editor on @BBCNews new premium digital analysis team. It’s great that the BBC is committed to in-depth journalism online and I can’t wait to get stuck in. But it means that after 14 years I’m soon leaving @BBCNewsnight. 1/

On @BBCNewsnight tonight #Leicester Public health director @ivanbrowneLCC tells us: "having that data earlier would have allowed us to just got it at an earlier stage and been able to dampen it down." Gov say postcode data provided 24/06. With @deb_cohen

No doubt much more will be said about Covid and children as thoughts turn to reopening schools across the UK. This from my recent @BBCNewsnight piece with @deb_cohen shows how likely different age groups are to pass on the virus. Blue bars old variant, red bars new Kent variant.

We often hear reports of asylum seekers who claim to be children, but to some eyes look suspiciously like adults. However our Newsnight investigation (TV report below) established something else, quite different, is happening. (THREAD)

This graph on vaccine uptake in Lever Edge, Bolton v average didn't quite make it into last night's @BBCNewsnight piece with @deb_cohen . The biggest differences are currently among those age 40-60. We spoke to Bolton vaccine lead @DrWallBolton who told us: 1/2

On #newsnight tonight, Bild editor @jreichelt says his paper would back a World Cup boycott if @theresa_may asked Germany to join Britain in withdrawing. (there's more from him in this morning's Mail)

"if s-body is deprived, if they’ve not got money for the bus to go for a vax, if they’ve not got credit for the phone to book an appt, if they've got to get on pub transpt and maybe they don't want to during Cov or have children to look after, all of these are barriers to vax."

Ringing round Tory MPs I just texted former Boris backer @JamesDuddridge : "Wondering who you are backing?" His reply: "Me too."

Schools will not start to reopen before March 8th. @deb_cohen and I have looked at the science behind closing them. It's a subject that does not command scientific consensus. bbc.co.uk/programmes/p09… @BBCNewsnight

Many leaseholders in Transport House in Salford face having to fork out more to make their flats safe than they originally paid for them. They're currently nigh on impossible to sell.

If you'd like to watch our piece on Transport House and the enormous costs being presented to residents in full and didn't see the programme last night, you can do so here. Produced by @jakemorristw. bbc.co.uk/programmes/p09…

Latest from @lewis_goodall and me for @bbcnewsnight on the building safety crisis.
Yesterday we broadcast the latest of our pieces on the building safety crisis. So often it's supposed the costs for leaseholders are arising as a result of changes in building safety law now. But it can also be about a failure in building safety which goes back decades.

Look out for some fascinating graphs including % who can work from home vs level of deprivation. And also household overcrowding. Bbc2 10.45pm. With thanks to our contributors below. @BBCNewsnight
