I met the Holocaust survivor who became my 'aunt' at the Tree of Life synagogue 25 years ago. Today I called to make sure she was still alive. "All day have been thinking about when they killed my family in the synagogue in Vilna," she said. That was before the Holocaust started.

The article goes on to say "numerous people were wielding AR-15 rifles and other firearms." If this election happened in Africa, "armed" would be in the headline (and "numerous" would be in the lead).

These didn't go up for Roe. I took some pictures of the same on April 23.
Right now: Barricades are up around the Supreme Court building, just minutes after reports from Politico were leaked indicating SCOTUS has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
    Readers added context
The barricades around the U.S. Supreme Court building have been up since at least April 26, 2022, likely in response to the self-immolation of an environmental activist on Earth Day. gettyimages.com/detail/news-ph… gettyimages.com/detail/news-ph… nytimes.com/2022/04/24/us/…

I wasn't totally sure how this year went and then I realized well, I didn't pick a fight with Auschwitz about the real meaning of Nazism so I guess I did ok.

PSA: US$ never, ever paid for abortions abroad. That's illegal since 1973. (Conservative press statements falsely claiming/hinting o/w)

Interesting. They suspended flights to West Africa pretty fast during the Ebola outbreak. And Ebola is a lot easier to intercept at the airport, to trace, etc. Then again, all those loans....
KENYA AIRWAYS says it will not suspend flights to China over coronavirus; closely monitoring the situation before taking next steps.

Prize for the first person (who doesn’t know this airport) to figure out what this mass of people en route to T gate, waiting for more than an hour in an airless waiting area with no plugs, no refreshments, no airport amenities of any kind has in common…

As Westerners look at Africa's comparatively low COVID-19 #s, I've been curious abt the theories they use to make sense of that -- and why the rapid, robust response by some African health authorities isn't one of them. (Thanks @RohdeD for a great edit)

This article is a little bit hard to follow but it's worth revisiting after today's Ethiopian Airlines crash -- same plane, this Boeing that the company and the FAA decided pilots didn't need retaining for.

    Replying to @itsjina @LarryMadowo and @BrusselsAirport
A year before that, also @BrusselsAirport, I was asked how I got “that African” name (I have my husband’s name on legal documents). I said, “I married an African.” He then asked, I swear to God, “Why did you do that?” This place has a problem and it isn’t only T terminal.

@arwaCNN @chrissymacCNN I'm looking for coverage of students like this, left at the border for being black, in your live coverage of the refugee situation at the Polish border right now. If not now, soon?
