This GP legend, who happens to be my Dad, retired on Friday after 56 years, working fulltime right to the last day
I've had the privilege of working along side him for 23 years
He says he has loved every day of his life as a GP!

- OK. I'm seriously losing faith in humanity.. I'm returning calls to people who are close contacts and now symptomatic so seeking advice and they are in their car or clearly in shops.. What part of 'STAY HOME if you are a close contact OR symptomatic' do people not understand?
- To all the female healthcare workers who have sacrificed family time to care for Covid sick throughout the past 10 months... Nollaig na mBan faoi mhaise daoibh go léir 🙏
- I've referred 2 patients for testing already today. Both had covid symptoms. Both still presented for face to face consultations! Both did not think that their symptoms could be possible covid related This is really worrying + shows that public understanding of symptoms is poor
- Total madness in GP out of hours services. Unprecedented numbers of calls from symptomatic patients seeking covid testing. I had to ask GPs to come in from home to provide extra help to those already in call. Colleagues left their families on New Year's day to help #covidmadness
- Covid presentations continue to change Many people presenting with: - vomiting / diarrhoea - Severe sore throat - Aches and pains all over - marked nasal/sinus congestion - temperatures My advice? Stay home, you're contagious even if its not covid Antigen test daily for 3 days
- I dread the Covid figures in coming days. It's clear from the level of patient telephone consultations who report being symptomatic close contacts, that Covid 19 is presently out of control. Is it time for a 2 week complete lockdown to stop the spread? I think so.
- It's a fabulous Friday Not only because its Friday, but because there has been an unbelievable dramatic drop in covid presentations this week + NO positive results in 2 days The longest period since early December in our practice Well done everyone, We may have regained control
GIF - Just before 5 today we got HSE email telling us we must provide list of housebound patients who want Covid vaccine ready by tomorrow 5pm. We have to ensure they understand the process + agree to NAS attending their home to give Guess who will be blamed if it doesn't work? The GP!
- Lots of +ve covid results today. Multiple young children all presenting with runny nose + mild cough. Some had no raised temperature While they may not very ill they are very contagious Parents. Don't delay if your child has any symptoms. Get tested + isolate to limit spread
- A carcrash interview on @morningireland by @paulreiddublin Refusing to answer questions HSE management were alerted to concerns regarding Kerry CAMHS service + did NOTHING Its clear from the interview that all blame will be placed on clinicians with no managerial accountability
- I'm utterly appalled to hear suggestions from the HSE that vaccination delivery is because GPs don't work weekends Are you aware we have an archaic 27/7/365 contract meaning GPs work long days with nights + weekends on call? Are you aware that all our CPD occurs in our rest time?
- Reports that GP OOH services completely inundated with patients, antigen positive, requiring PCR testing. Unable to self refer so seeking GP referral This means sick patients requiring medical care can't get through @DonnellyStephen @paulreiddublin this is on your watch!
- Replying to @seemathewombatToday I've cooked 3llb of mince, made a massive pot of red Thai curry and my younger daughters favorite smoked salmon pasta in case I can't come home. I've a bag packed and a lidl fold out bed in my car boot. I've looked at Italy and realise this could get really bad #COVID19
