It’s now been 4 years since I gave my dad a kidney and we are still doing great. If you have a loved one in need, take the time to learn the facts about kidney donation. If you need a transplant, don’t be afraid to ask. I hope this article helps.

Some professional news:  Today was my first day as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs.  Excited and humbled to return to OSD/Policy and serve with so many dedicated people at DOD as part of the Biden-Harris Administration.

This just shows such a fundamental misunderstanding of the Middle East
I bet if Biden warns he is pulling out of Iran deal negotiations if Hamas doesn’t stop the air strikes, the war would suddenly come to an end. #IranSupportsHamas

So this report from Channel 12 says Lapid and Bennet have a deal and if Bennet can convince his party to go along, there’d be a new Israeli government in 10 days with Netanyahu no longer prime minister. Wow

Too early to tell for sure, but Hamas appears to be having more success than in the past in overwhelming Iron Dome with bigger barrages. If true, will lead to more Israeli casualties, which will also mean a harsher Israeli response. A recipe for significant escalation.

What is happening in Jerusalem is similar to the Trump effect. Bibi has facilitated getting extremists into the Knesset. He winks & nods at them & is dependent on them for his political survival. They are in turn emboldened & this violence is the result.

    1. As talks begin in Vienna, the Biden Admin is committed to ultimately getting to a “longer and stronger” deal with Iran. Here’s why the only realistic way to get there is first by mutual return to the JCPOA & why arguments about leveraging Trump’s sanctions don’t make sense.

    1. So the mantra of the day seems to be to improve the situation in Gaza without directly helping Hamas. But how to do that? There is one immediate short-term idea that is better than all the others. Give Gazans permits to work in Israel.

There has been some question in recent days on whether the Biden administration would return the US to the pre-Trump position that the West Bank is occupied territory. Seems that the answer is clearly yes.

    1. Important to remember that while US has an important role to play in ending the current conflict between Israel and Hamas, it’s not the decisive mediator because it doesn’t engage with Hamas. A few lessons from my time at State during the last Gaza war.

We are on the verge of a dangerous situation in Jerusalem in the coming days that requires a serious response from the Israeli government. Describing that situation as a “private real-estate dispute” is not a serious response.
Regrettably, the PA and Palestinian terror groups are presenting a real-estate dispute between private parties, as a nationalistic cause, in order to incite violence in Jerusalem (1/2)

    1. Biden administration’s approach thus far has been to push privately for a ceasefire while publicly continuing to give the Israelis space. (Not what I would have recommended, but it has a couple things to recommend it.)

JD Vance voted AGAINST $5.2 billion in missile defense spending for Israel. Money that went to exactly the kind of weapons Israel and the US used today to defeat the Iranian attack. Unclear how that’s standing behind Israel?

If you are trying to understand what led to the fighting we now see in Israel and Palestine, this summary of the last months events is an excellent explainer.
