⚠️ DISCORD PSA Be extremely careful when clicking on links in Discord from now on. The Markdown Syntax allows you to hide what links are at first glance. The only way you'd be able to tell the difference is by hovering over the link and seeing if both URLs match.

Another way it may look like a convincing link is with the slashes but in actuality, they're inverse slashes to what permissible URLs allow. Seeing the difference for how Discord posts a URL normally against it's Markdown is another big giveaway of a suspicious link.

Depending on if Discord treats the URL as suspicious, it'll bring up a dialogue box to ensure you're going to the correct site. In this instance, you can see it shows the Markdown'd hidden address. If it's an already known abusive website, the dialogue box in the second picture.

As it has been brought up a few times, some links will produce embeds, much like Youtube videos, etc of what it's truly linking to. Markdown also can remove the embeds from links so that it'll just do only the fake URL

The reason for this PSA is that with the newer/older generation, they may not be as acquainted with Markdown maliciousness that arises, or the days of forums/BBCode, hell, even e-mail phishing scams. It's important to stay hyper-vigilant and be cautious of what links you click.

We also have to bare in mind that with such scam/phishing links, they are usually not going to have such embedding as to keep it as hidden in order to produce such a scam.
