    i blogged about these rape & torture gangs 10+ years ago. one element overlooked by westerners is that many of these gangs have at least a handful of extended family members at their core: couple of brothers, some cousins, maybe an uncle or two. started by families, not friends.
    I think the main question we have to ask is: why is this kind of man so common in the Muslim community? Can you imagine the reaction your friends would have if you proposed this course of action to them? Would they not recoil in horror? Or would they get drink and drugs and say

    "core" europe, as in the core of modern western europe, is the dark bits on this map, i.e. the areas of medieval europe that had communal field systems on manors in which largely *non-kin* cooperated in sustaining themselves. this is where all the nw european trust comes from.

    my norwegian husband was an exchange student in guatemala. he had a nice canon camera and had his name on the bottom of it. someone in his host family asked why he had his name on it. he replied that, in case he lost it, someone could return it. they just laughed & laughed. 😂

    Was in Japan in '03. A girl forgot her camera on a bench. Went back an hour later and it was gone. She started crying. A Japanese woman engaged us and she started laughing! She laughed b/c she knew where the camera was...she took us to the police station. Someone turned it in!
