Many asked me whether I still plan to go to #Beirut in June as the Surgeon-in-Chief/Chair & Assistant Dean of Medical School @AUB_Lebanon . The answer is a resounding & easy yes. I cannot wait to be even a small part of #betterdays coming to #Lebanon. These days will come. 100%.

Update tweet from the #COVIDー19 ICU Trenches: 1. Staff morale is high 2. Real sick patients: 18/18 patients intubated, 11 prone 3. Age range: 30s to 80s 4. ICU nurses are heroes: watching them prone a patient in < 3 min is humbling 5. Proning works 6. No families around is sad

My 3 cents for #Match2022: 1. IMGs are needed & enrich. 2. #IMG does not sum up or define an applicant. They have different shades & stories. Ask about #distancetravelled 3. Prejudice & discrimination hurt. The blanket statement "our program does not take IMGs" will not age well.

From being told 2 decades ago, as a hopeful @AUB_Lebanon student "we do not take IMGs", to Full Professor @Harvard @harvardmed @MGHSurgery today, this was a challenging journey. I could not have done it without the support of amazing family, mentors, & friends. #Grateful

My advice to interns starting soon: You are not here to prove anything to anyone. Focus only on: 1) taking care of patients as if they were your own family members, 2) always being honest, & 3) having a learning attitude & mindset. For the surgical interns: scrub in the OR.

2 incidents, 4 days apart, one with hundreds escaping poverty/war & one with 5 men who paid 250K to enjoy an extreme adventure, dying. First with no rescue efforts or media coverage; second with minute-to-minute coverage & billions spent in rescue efforts despite the odds #Titan

This month, I joined the editorial board of the @AnnalsofSurgery - probably the top surgical journal. All I can think of now is how bad I felt years ago when I received the 4th consecutive rejection email for my 4th attempt to publish in it. #grateful

Today, I became a #USA citizen 🇺🇸. I was not born American; I chose to be American. The quote that comes to mind, today, is that there is nothing wrong in America that cannot be corrected with what's right in America. I will be #Voting in #Election2020, for a woman president.
