How I ended up in prison. The second time.
I once burglarized a home & stole a safe. I cracked the safe & discovered photos of the owner molesting a child. He reported the burglary to police. I turned the photos in. The cops called him in to discuss the burglary. He confessed. We both went to prison.

My union knows I’m out of work because of my recent heart surgery. I got this in the mail today, just to help out because they know I need it. Two thousand dollars. #UnionStrong #ibew

An observation my father made after visiting me in prison for a few years: cops are the only profession that gets ultimate authority over other human beings without ever having to earn it. They don't have to learn how to communicate, how to manage people, how to settle disputes.

Within a month of leaving prison, I was accepted into @UCBerkeley and received my bachelors with a 4.0. My felony record prevented me from finding work, even at my alma mater. A thread.

These are called dummy cages. When I discovered my cellmate’s lifeless body in the cell with me, prison guards put me in one of these cages for a few hours. Not a fun place to have a panic attack.

While I was in prison, I was the food procurement clerk. It was my job to work with the first cook to design the daily food menu (a 6-week cycle) and then make sure the men were fed on a budget of $2.60 per person per day. The Best Xmas prison meal, a thread...

I am a formerly incarcerated wildland firefighter. Taxpayer dollars were used to train me in a joint CALFIRE - CDCR program. I have fought fires, maintained trails, built fire breaks, etc. If you want people like me to be an available resource - please support this bill.
Let's pass #AB2147 because it will provide an expedited expungement process for formerly incarcerated people that have successfully participated in fire camps. #AB2147 will provide formerly incarcerated people who were in fire camps an opportunity to become EMT certified.

A man I lived with in prison overdosed on heroin. Using resources available to them, prisoners kept him alive with ice cubes and methamphetamine. A thread.

And, while I'm at it, I might as well mention that I really love my union. It takes care of its members. I want everyone to enjoy the same high wages, care, and benefits of union membership. Check this out:
