Put differently, the same people who didn't see a problem with a bad business model don't see the problem with a worse business model.
Tech executives and engineers are quitting Google, Meta, Amazon and other large companies for what they say is a once-in-generation opportunity with crypto. nyti.ms/3yHIG97

Hard to express the totally surreal feeling of returning home to find that the first hard copies of your BOOK have finally arrived, thank you @mitpress!!!

Quite something to see the immutable ledger people applaud the edit button 🤷‍♀️

Am I the only one who cringes at these photos? When we continue to elevate tech CEOs to the level of heads of state, it's no wonder that they act like quasi-sovereigns.
Glad to meet @OpenAI CEO @sama AI can fuel huge progress and improve our lives. But we must mitigate risks and build trust. To match the speed of tech development, AI firms need to play their part. EU will work with global partners and stakeholders towards trustworthy AI.

The more I work on "#AI," the more I believe in the importance of human decision-making.

"We have a technology called RLHF [reinforcement learning from human feedback] that is good at reducing bias in these systems." -@sama Umm, this "technology" is called HUMANS.

Many #AI tools essentially "free ride" on the "whole of human experience to date" & their creators "have effectively transferred tremendous wealth & power from the public sphere to a small handful of private entities." I spoke with @BBCNews about AI risks.

Where have I been? My voluntary summer hiatus turned involuntary when I was diagnosed with an extremely rare brain tumor in July. After multiple surgeries & hospitalizations (+ upcoming radiation), I'm focused on recovery. Please keep me in your thoughts, prayers & meditations 🙏

Are we really still buying into this lie about productivity? The same promises were made about the PC, laptop, smart phone & now #AI. It should be clear that these tools won't liberate anyone without changes to the underlying social, economic, & political systems they operate in.
    Replying to @sama
these tools will help us be more productive (can't wait to spend less time doing email!), healthier (AI medical advisors for people who can’t afford care), smarter (students using ChatGPT to learn), and more entertained (AI memes lolol).

The shift from "we didn't see this coming" via legacy #tech to "the harms were foreseeable but we chose to ignore them" from #AI is something to behold. abcnews.go.com/Technology/ope…

Unfortunately, and with all due respect POTUS, these are not the people who can tell us what is "most needed to protect society" when it comes to #AI
Artificial Intelligence is one of the most powerful tools of our time, but to seize its opportunities, we must first mitigate its risks. Today, I dropped by a meeting with AI leaders to touch on the importance of innovating responsibly and protecting people's rights and safety.

Personal data is not a commodity.
Personal data is the ultimate commodity and startups need to safeguard the information of its users. Full interview with @vinnylingham 👇🏼
